This is a full-time, exempt position.

JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Commercial Manager - Lincoln, NE. The position is responsible for the handling of grain and oilseeds origination, meal merchandising, logistics, accounting, and other customer related issues. Focusing on achieving optimum financial results while building strong relationships with customers, colleagues, and third party trading and transportation partners. As an established member of the merchandising team, this position requires strong strategic thinking, market knowledge, teamwork, and employee development focus.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK PERFORMED:
  • Builds & maintains relationships with a wide range of customers in a variety of markets
  • Strategic prospecting to identify and seek out new business
  • Understands customer requirements in order to collaborate and add value to both companies
  • Maintains a clear customer account list and provides detailed background information
  • Develops strong understanding of local plant operations
  • Develops a good working knowledge of freight spreads and competitor activities. Ensuring the most cost effective logistics strategies are utilized.
  • Handles all accounting related issues in a timely manner to ensure good customer service
  • Works to make quick decisions in a fast market while accepting the responsibility to defend them logically
  • Develops a clear understanding local, national, and global market trends
  • Aggressively makes outbound phone calls to build relationships and to deliver and receive timely market information
  • Actively uses customer database programs to document account activity and acquire marketing trends
  • Price discovery and bid/offer maintenance to enhance risk management and pricing
  • Understanding of margin calculations & their effect on commodity pricing
  • Develops a clear understanding and working knowledge of ADM information systems & ability to train others
  • Continually works on individual and personal development within the company, including participation in internal training sessions to enhance skills when able.
  • Works to attain positive, cooperative relationships with internal colleagues across divisions and responsibilities
  • Prepares and submits daily and ad hoc reports
  • Prepare and analyze month end reports and other divisional month end requirements
  • Helps in the development and training of new employees
  • Is willing to work outside normal business hours including weekends with limited travel required throughout the year
  • Portrays a positive image of the company and self when interacting with customers and colleagues
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
  • University degree in agriculture or business (i.e. economics, finance, accounting).
  • Demonstrated capacity to excel within high risk, fast-paced work environment. Proven ability to assess risk and exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the domestic and international trade.
  • Proven ability to manage effectively within a team based work environment.
  • Computer competent, with demonstrated ability in the use of spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
  • Individual must be committed to corporate ethics policies and safety programs.
