Job Description
- Speech Pathologist works under the supervision of Speech Therapy Supervisor.
- Assesses referred patients.
- Plans and administers Speech Therapy intervention plan, schedules treatments, records treatment information, instructs students to assist in the treatment and rehabilitation of patients, provides instruction to patients, family, and Hospital staff.
- Should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Speech Pathologist assesses patients, plans and administers Care Plans compatible with physician, patient, and family goals.
- Provides high-quality and safe patient care.
- Completes all necessary documentation related to patient treatment.
- Assists in the efficient and effective return of patients to the highest degree of independence possible.
- Maintains a cost-effective treatment plan.
- Assists in the orientation of new employees and volunteers.
- Ensures that persons who work for, are serviced by, or associated with, the Hospital receive the highest degree of courtesy possible.
- Adheres to established Hospital safety standards.
- Ensures department objectives are met.
- Speech Pathologist should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education :
- A California Speech Therapy license required
Licensure :
- Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards requires a Certificate of Clinical Competence required.
Experience:
- None.
Essential Technical/Motor Skills:
- Fine motor skills in order for employees to manipulate equipment and manually mobilize patients. Normal gross motor skills.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to interact appropriately with patient and employee population under ten conditions and maintain composure. Able to communicate effectively in all situations.
- Essential Mental Abilities: Ability to complete multiple patient evaluations, and develop, update, and executive treatment plans. Problem-solving and independent thinking are required.
- Performance Improvement: Assumes an active role in the department's Continuous Performance Improvement Program. Develops, implements, and assesses Continuous Performance Improvement efforts as assigned.

Certification:
- BLS - AHA, CA SLP (Speech-Language Pathologist) License
Education:
- Graduation from an accredited speech therapy program
Special Notes:
- Setting; Inpatient hospital, comfortable with Modified barium swallows and adult patients ranging from MedSurg, and ICU to strokes.
