Job Summary

Dallas College is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and visionary leader who will serve as the Director for the Social Work Academy. The Director for the Social Work Academy will report to the Associate Vice Provost for the School of Law and Public Service.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Experience in developing business and operational plans that demonstrates a clear understanding of organizational policies/procedures.
  • Ability to plan and implement projects related to the department's strategic plan that accomplish the vision, mission, and goals of the organization.

  • Ability to stay up to date with trends and best practices related to area of responsibility.
  • Ability to generate various needs assessments to determine the effectiveness of programs or processes that could broaden and/or enhance client service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the leadership and management of the Social Work Academy, performing complex and highly responsible duties to attain organizational and Dallas College goals.
  • Serves as the leader, spokesperson, and primary advocate for the Legal Studies Academy.
  • Manages the general day-to-day operations of programs in the Social Work Academy; work with faculty to develop and drive program goals; support faculty development, instruction, and student success.
  • Works closely with faculty, staff, local agencies, and community programs to ensure students obtain a quality education to meet the needs of stakeholders and constituents within the Dallas College community network.
  • Maintains working relationships with all segments of the Texas Health and Human Services System to keep abreast of current requirements, trends, policies and procedures.
  • Remains current on new and existing laws and regulations; interprets and applies appropriate policies, procedures, and guidelines pertaining to Social Work licensures, practicums, and related program functions.
  • Integrates knowledge of industry trends and professional training to continuously improve program to ensure the establishment of effective learning outcomes and related assessment methods.
  • Supports Social Work Academy students through the academic program ensuring retention and graduation.
  • Maintains required standards, records, filing and reporting deadlines, notifications, and compliance with all mandates established by Program accreditation or licensure requirements.
  • Acts as custodian of records and works closely with Dallas College and accreditation or licensure auditors during program evaluations.
  • Applies and maintains standards of quality operating methods, processes, systems, and procedures; implements changes as necessary to maintain a successful academic programs.
  • Ensures the Program meets accreditation standards and complies with state and national laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Responsible for providing quality instruction and performing instructional duties and responsibilities in accordance with the philosophy, mission, policies and procedures of Dallas College.
  • Supervises full-time faculty, part-time faculty and staff professional development, performance, and evaluations.
  • Collaborates with faculty, deans, directors, and department chairs to determine teaching assignments and course schedules.
  • Provides leadership and guidance for faculty committees and advisory councils with curriculum development, program reviews and performance goals.
  • Maintains inventory of program equipment and supplies.
  • Manages and provides input on department budgets and compliance for operations, marketing, programs, supplies, professional development travel, Perkins Grant, and other grant funded programs.
  • Works in collaboration with Academic Scheduling and Data Analytics to ensure smooth operations for scheduling, textbook adoptions, and student success.
  • Works in collaboration with student services to ensure smooth operations for student affairs and career services.
  • Utilizes effective interpersonal, listening, oral and written communications when communicating with stakeholders and constituents internal/external to the Dallas College community network.
  • Monitors program performance management, and effectively uses institutional research and other data sources to make relevant program decisions.
  • Works closely with administrators, faculty and staff in the School of Law and Public Service to foster student-centered programs, excellence in teaching and learning, community engagement, and public service.
  • Represents the Dallas College School of Law and Public Service to students, parents, alumni, other institutions, and friends of Dallas College as appropriate in both informal and formal settings to explain and promote Academy programs and public service.
  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Physical Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in social work, or social work discipline or Master's degree in counseling, or mental health discipline plus five (5) years of work experience in related field including two (2) years of supervisory experience is preferred. Or Master's degree or higher in a relevant subject-matter plus experience in a leadership role focused on bring systematic change in an academic setting.
  • Prior teaching experience as a full-time faculty, or adjunct faculty at an institution of higher education.
  • Current State of Texas Licensure in Social Work, Substance Abuse, or Counseling is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Texas State Social Work and Substance Abuse councils, boards and/or licensing organizations is preferred.
  • At least one year of higher education-based administrative experience (i.e., faculty lead, department chair, program coordinator) experience with program development and approvals, curriculum, academic scholarship, and community service is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience working with program assessment and accreditation processes and procedures is preferred.
  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.
  • Official transcripts and/or certifications is required.
  • A current and valid Texas driver's license is required.
  • Early mornings, evenings, and weekends is required.
