Summary

THIS IS A 2nd SHIFT POSITION. HOURS ARE 2:30PM - 1:00AM

Make molds used in the production of metal castings in foundries. These duties are to be performed within safety, quality, and production standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned that pertain to this classification.
  • Clean and smooth molds and repair surface imperfections.
  • Cut spouts, runner holes, and sprue holes into molds.
  • Lift upper mold sections from lower sections and remove molded patterns.
  • Move and position work pieces such as mold sections, patterns, and bottom boards, using hoists in coordination with others to move work pieces.
  • Position cores into lower sections of molds and assemble molds for pouring.
  • Sift and pack sand into mold sections, core boxes, and pattern contours, using hand or pneumatic ramming tools.
  • Change patterns as required in machinery.
  • Operate machinery that produces molds, monitor the operation of the machine, take corrective action as needed and/or report issues to supervisor.
Knowledge:
  • Production and Processing - Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Skills:
  • Operation Monitoring - Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Operation and Control - Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
  • Quality Control Analysis - Conducting inspections of products to evaluate quality.
  • Communication - Able to convey information effectively.
  • Time Management - Managing one's own time.
Abilities:
  • Manual Dexterity - The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Multi-limb Coordination - The ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while standing. It does not involve performing the activities while the whole body is in motion.
  • Static Strength - The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects.
  • Trunk Strength - The ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without 'giving out' or fatiguing.

Standing, stooping and squatting can be expected along with repetitive lifting or with other means transfer of tooling, parts, containers and raw materials weighing up to 50 pounds. The performance of this position normally requires exposure to typical manufacturing areas that require the use of personal protective equipment: Steel toed shoes, Safety Glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.

Primary environment: Temperature of work area may be affected by outside temperatures and machining. Industrial lighting provided.
