The Optometrist works to provide the best possible eye care and a supportive, caring experience to our patients. Using independent professional judgment in the practice of optometry within the scope of the laws of the state of California and the rules and regulations of the California Board of Optometry, the Optometrist provides high quality optometry care services. An emphasis on patient-centered care with a high-touch/concierge-like approach is essential to how care is delivered.

This is a per diem role and shifts will be scheduled to covers gaps in the schedules and leaves of absence.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provides eye care for patients with eye-related disorders and conditions.
  • Takes appropriate actions(s) to address patients' chief complaint(s) and ensure ocular health and visual needs are met.
  • Performs tests including but not limited to refraction, tonometry, visual fields, color vision, stereopsis, eye mobility, alignment and accomodation, dilated fundus exam, retinal imaging.
  • Analyzes tests to diagnose, treat and manage visual and ocular conditions.
  • Takes detailed medical histories for all patients, including current and past prescription medications.
  • Diagnoses and co-manages eye conditions caused by systemic diseases, referring and reporting to appropriate health care providers for comprehensive care.
  • Refers patient to Ophthalmologists/Specialists when required and appropriate.
  • Clearly documents impressions and clinical action plan in the chart including referrals to other providers, long term medical management and/or optical and therapeutic prescriptions dispensed and recommendations to patients.
  • Prescribes corrective lenses when required.
  • Provides contact lens services, including contact lens fittings and refitting of soft and rigid lenses.
  • Educates patients about proper eye hygiene and care.
  • Identifies eye health safety factors that could impact vision, such as working around chemicals, lasers or in front of a computer.
  • Schedules follow-up visits with patients as needed for ocular or visual conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • State of California Optometrist & OD license
  • Doctorate degree from accredited School of Optometry
  • 2+ years of experience working as an Optometrist
  • Excellent customer service and organization skills
  • Advanced time management skills
  • Ability to diagnose and treat eye-related disorders and conditions
