Job Summary
The Vice President of Market Development is a crucial position responsible for creating and executing the growth strategy for our non-spine market. This role involves identifying and leveraging key drivers for market adoption and expansion through marketing campaigns, training, communication, and channel development to enhance the company's market presence. The ideal candidate will be expected to formulate strategies for both existing and new customer segments, build and nurture relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), stay informed about competitive dynamics, and drive market expansion initiatives. This position reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Marketing.
Responsibilities
- Leads and drives market development, serving as the internal advocate for the company's New Market strategy across various functions.
- Attracts, mentors, and develops direct reports to build the skills necessary for supporting the execution of the market strategy.
- Formulates and communicates a compelling strategy by understanding customer needs, channel dynamics, and the competitive landscape.
- Oversees market segmentation, targeting, positioning, key messaging, and competitive analysis within the Market Development segment.
- Develops and implements marketing communications, including sales collateral, company website content, and organization of conferences and professional education events.
- Collaborates with sales leadership to gather market feedback, identify field training and messaging needs, and deliver appropriate solutions.
- Engages directly with thought leaders to evaluate the clinical and technological needs of new segments or customers, and to challenge existing assumptions.
- Maintains relationships with key industry societies and manages the company's presence at clinical conferences.
- Conducts market research to assess, define, and measure progress within key market segments.
- Creates and monitors market metrics and KPIs to evaluate the effectiveness of sales growth and market penetration strategies.
- Regularly interacts with the executive leadership team.
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree or MBA preferred.
- At least 10 years of proven success and progressive experience in marketing or sales within the medical device, surgical implant, or biotech industry. Preference for candidates with experience in developing new market opportunities using disruptive technologies.
- Technical and clinical expertise required, with the ability to understand and shape technical nuances to build clinical data that supports clinical adoption and reimbursement.
- Demonstrated experience in leading teams, developing talent, and engaging employees effectively.
- Experience in transitioning innovations from early adopters to the early majority, with a clear understanding of the behavior drivers across different adopter segments.
- Skilled in making decisions with incomplete data and creating performance measures to adjust strategies as the market evolves.
- Capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Proven ability to collaborate, influence, and work effectively with others in a dynamic, matrixed organization.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Willing to travel domestically up to 40% of the time, with some international travel expected.
