Summary of Position
Under direction of the Property Services Director, perform skilled work in assembling, installing, maintaining, and repairing pipes, fittings, and fixtures pertaining to heating, water, and drainage systems; to perform semiskilled and skilled duties in other maintenance trade areas; and to do other related work as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Install general plumbing systems to current codes and maintain and repair existing systems.
  • Install, maintain, and repair various types of water heating and low-pressure boiler units and systems.
  • Install water and waste piping to state code requirements.
  • Repair and replace pipes and control valves, fittings, and a variety of other fixtures and devices.
  • Cut, thread pipes, and join pipes and lines utilizing a variety of techniques and materials.
  • Clean and remove obstructions from drains, water, and sewer systems.
  • Install and maintain backflow devices to ensure that potable water lines are protected.
  • Plan, organize, and lay out work in accordance with blueprints, schematics, and building code requirements.
  • Requisition, order and maintain an adequate inventory of plumbing related parts, and materials.
  • Plan, organize, and lay out assigned skilled tasks.
  • Estimate labor and material project costs.
  • Formulate, create and maintain a variety of preventative maintenance records.
  • Drive and maintain a service vehicle to and from work sites.
  • Assist in other maintenance work orders as needed

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
  • Applicable state plumbing codes, guidelines and regulations.
  • Backflow prevention regulations and system testing.
  • Methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the plumbing trade.
  • Installation, maintenance and repair of a variety of plumbing systems utilized in commercial and residential applications.
  • Safe working habits, methods and procedures.
Ability to:
  • Skillfully and safely install, maintain, and repair plumbing fixtures and systems
  • Work from blueprints, shop drawings, sketches, manuals, diagrams and schematics.
  • Accurately estimate labor and material costs.
  • Establish good records and prepare complete and concise, maintenance and repair reports
  • Develop and maintain as built drawings as changes are made.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Plan, lay out, and coordinate the work of others.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be:

Experience:
  • Minimum: Completion of 4-year apprenticeship.
  • Preferred: Two years of experience as a licensed journeyman plumber.
Education:
  • High School diploma or the equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid Colorado Motor Vehicle Operator's License
Journeyman Plumber's License
Backflow Cross Contamination Prevention Certificate

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Insurability by the District's liability insurance carrier.
  • Upon receipt of an offer of employment, candidates must complete required drug testing within 72 hours. All testing will be conducted by a licensed independent medical laboratory, which will follow testing standards in accordance with state law. Testing will be conducted on a urine sample provided by the candidate to the testing laboratory under procedures established by the laboratory to ensure privacy of the employee, while protecting against tampering/alteration of the test results.
