Job Description

The Center for Campus Life seeks an Associate Director of Student Organizations and Leadership. Reporting to the Director of Campus Life, the Associate Director for Student Organizations and Leadership is pivotal in cultivating a vibrant and engaged campus community by providing guidance and support to over 80 student organizations. The Associate Director for Student Organizations and Leadership contributes significantly to enhancing the student experience and fostering a sense of belonging within the campus community. This role is the number two leader within the Center for Campus Life and must be able to implement the vision and strategies set by the Director for the department. This role requires flexibility, including availability for night and weekend work, and a commitment to student development and engagement. This position is in primarily person but the university does have a flexible work arrangement policy.

Student Organizations (40%)
• Serves as the primary advisor to the Assembly of Clubs and Professional Organizations (ACPO), a student leadership group that supports 80+ student organizations.
• Assist student organizations in their operations including budgeting, event approvals, room reservations, work orders, purchases, reimbursements, contracts, and fundraising.
• Support two professional academic fraternity organizations with recruitment, events, initiation, and orientation.
• Coordinate annual Student Leader Trainings in September and January, the President's Luncheon, and new club and professional organization training.
• Attend and support large-scale student club/organization events
• Oversee the New Club Application process and acceptance/training of new clubs/professional organizations
• Oversight of the Cardinal Pride Portal with the organizational operations including officer transition, budget allocation, and management
• Support and train faculty and staff advisors who serve as guiding mentors for student organizations
• Manage student organization travel including approval of travel and management of associated paperwork and contracts
• Collaborate with other departments such as the Business Office, Catering, Facilities, Legal, and Public Safety to ensure all student organization events are planned and executed successfully
• Serve as a conduct officer for student organization cases

Leadership (20%)
• Responsible for the coordination and implementation of the Student Leader Curriculum, a training program for all student leaders and employees within the Center for Campus Life
• Chair the Student Leadership committee with other campus-wide hiring managers. The committee's purpose is to inspire, hire, and train campus-wide student leaders jointly throughout multiple offices
• Serve as the lead for Campus Life student leadership position recruitment and coordination of hiring
• Stay up to date with student development trends

Programming (10%)
• Oversee the Campus Life Fair; an involvement fair highlighting all 80+ organizations and departments for students in the first month of school
• Plan and implement the Leadership Awards Banquet
• Collaborate on Student Leadership 101 events with the Student Leadership Committee

Supervision (20%)
• Supervise a 20 hours per week graduate assistant
• Hire, train, and supervise 10 student leaders within ACPO

Orientation (5%)
• Assist in the implementation and administration of the New Student, Transfer, and Family/Guest Orientation programs for the Boston Campus
• Present on Getting Involved with Campus Life session with the Assistant Director

Administrative (5%)
• Assist with the operational tasks of the department’s involvement platforms such as the Cardinal Pride Portal, Comevo, and University Tickets
• Assist with large-scale Campus Life programs such as Welcome Week, Campus Life Fair, Family Weekend, Harvest Ball, Late Night Breakfast, and ClamBQ
• Serve in the absence of the Director of Campus Life.
• Assist with University-wide programs such as Accepted Students Day, Commencement, and Move-In Day
• Attend trainings and workshops related to professional development
• Assist with departmental operations, including but not limited to office e-mail and phone, timesheets, room reservations, work orders, catering, and billing
• Contribute to sustaining and enhancing an inclusive working and learning environment
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Required:
• Master’s degree, preferably in higher education administration/student affairs preferred
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience working within Campus Life/Student Activities with a focus on leadership and student organizations
• Strong programming experience
• Experience in managing event and program budgets
• Experience supervising a large group of student leaders
• Understanding of diversity/inclusion and best practices for student development
• Excellent time-management, organizational, verbal, and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage confidential materials and maintain privacy
• Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
• Ability to work occasional nights and weekends

Preferred:
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Experience working with campus involvement software
• Experience in student leader training, program development, and program creation
• A sense of urgency and ability to prioritize tasks and resources appropriately
• Familiarity with the complexities of international student transitional needs
• Ability to meet deadlines and perform well under pressure

Physical Requirements:

• Standing, sitting, manual dexterity, ability to move between offices and floors of buildings
• Ability to be physically in attendance at designated worksite during scheduled work hours
