Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Occupational Therapist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of anatomy and physiology, along with experience in developing and implementing care plans tailored to meet the needs of diverse patient populations.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Assess patients' physical, cognitive, and emotional abilities to determine areas of improvement
- Develop individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient's needs
- Implement therapeutic activities and interventions to enhance patients' daily living skills
- Educate patients and their families on coping strategies and assistive devices
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care
- Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary
- Document patient evaluations, treatment plans, and progress notes
- Advocate for patient needs in various settings such as schools or workplaces
- Provide guidance and support to patients transitioning back to daily activities
- Conduct home or workplace assessments to recommend modifications
- Stay updated on the latest research and advancements in occupational therapy
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program
- State licensure to practice as an Occupational Therapist
- Certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
- At least two years of experience working as an OT
- Experience in geriatrics or neurological conditions
- Familiarity with the latest therapeutic techniques and interventions
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems
- Strong understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and psychology
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Effective verbal and written communication abilities
- Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care
- Ability to develop and implement customized treatment plans
- Review patients’ medical history, ask the patients questions, and observe them doing tasks
- Evaluate a patient’s condition and needs
- Develop a treatment plan for patients, identifying specific goals and the types of activities that will be used to help the patient work toward those goals
- Help people with various disabilities perform different tasks, such as teaching a stroke victim how to get dressed
- Demonstrate exercises—for example, stretching the joints for arthritis relief—that can help relieve pain in people with chronic conditions
- Evaluate a patient’s home or workplace and, on the basis of the patient’s health needs, identify potential improvements, such as labeling kitchen cabinets for an older person with poor memory
- Educate a patient’s family and employer about how to accommodate and care for the patient
- Recommend special equipment, such as wheelchairs and eating aids, and instruct patients on how to use that equipment
- Assess and record patients’ activities and progress for patient evaluations, for billing, and for reporting to physicians and other healthcare providers
