Responsibilities Operate seam seal machines, adjusting temperature settings for desired results. Maintain knowledge, and answers questions on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. Use of measuring tapes, hem markers, yard sticks, patterns, and similar devices to measure garment pieces. Review work to see whether the supervisor's instructions have been met. Knowledge of performance and handling characteristics such as dimensional stability, abrasion resistance and heat sensitivity, to select materials to meet particular needs. Assure that safety and housekeeping rules are followed. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Industrial Worker Leader without more than normal supervision. Working with a variety of fabrics. Using measuring devices to measure garment pieces. Utlizing written and oral instructions, blueprints, sketches, and specifications. Operating the Gerber Cutter XLS. And assembling Patient Protective Wrap (PPW) and other textile projects. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability to Lead or Supervise Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORT - Fabric Worker/Leaders often stand at worktables to measure, mark, and cut materials. They do a considerable amount of stooping, bending, kneeling continually use arms, hands, and fingers in pulling and positioning of materials, sewing, and using tools such as shears and electric knives. Textile workers may occasionally work in cramped areas, on ladders and scaffolds, and overhead. They frequently lift and carry items the weigh 30 pounds; some workers at the level handle items that are consistently heavier and bulkier. They frequently lift items that can weigh up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift heavier items with assistance.Fabric Worker/Leaders operates a standard or high-speed industrial sewing machine to perform a number of operations in the manufacture of items for chemical protective clothing. Production line operators use skill in manipulating material requiring a combination of techniques or joining of major components with curved edges. Operations performed must conform to established time standards and standards of fit. Operators may sit for long periods with continual movement of hands, arms and fingers in placing items in position and sewing. Workers frequently lift bomb, shells, and rocket casings, power charges, or other objects weighting 30 to 40 pounds. Workers frequently lift and carry cartons, materials, supplies and equipment weighing up to twenty pounds and may occasionally handle items weighing up to fifty pounds. Some assignments require lifting about 60 pounds at a production rate pace determined by line speed/engineering standards. May pull or push hand trucks weighting several hundred pounds. The work requires sitting, walking, bending, reaching, crouching, and long periods of standing. Endurance and eye-hand coordination are required to work at a steady pace and rhythm for long periods. Workers perform work on hard surfaces and in work areas requiring them to stand, stoop, bend, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended periods. Hand-trucks, dollies and other workers are available for assistance with heavier items. WORKING CONDTIONS - Fabric Worker/Leaders are subject to noise from sewing machines, they may wear or use protective devices such as safety shoes, glasses, respirators or machine guards. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
