Job Overview

This full time position coordinates, supervises, and monitors the routine day to day activities of assigned staff and department operations; provides individual Child Life services and group recreation programs; functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team and to act as a resource to staff and the general public regarding assigned areas of responsibility.

This position requires proven ability to make decisions, think conceptually and strategically, lead others and possess strong clinical skills as well as communication and leadership skills. Requires a Bachelor's degree, previous experience working with hospitalized and healthy children, and Child Life certificate, as well as current CPR. A background in Child Development, Child Life, Psychology or a similar field is required. Previous experience working with burn patients and bilingual in English/Spanish preferred. Previous managerial experience in a pediatric setting required.

This position is full time, exempt and benefits eligible. The pay range for this position is $38.76 - $58.14/hour. Compensation is determined based on years of experience and departmental equity.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates job duties to staff in a clear, understandable, and concise manner; plans, directs, and supervises work ofassigned staff utilizing positive communications and effective problem solving skills.
  • Provides consistent input on performance in consultation with Director; to include initial planning/review session, annualperformance appraisal, and counseling, if necessary, based on defined criteria and in compliance with Human Resourcespolicies and procedures.
  • Evaluates department staffing/scheduling requirements, taking into account requests for holiday/vacation time;recommends appropriate use of per diem staff.
  • Monitors, controls, evaluates and reports departmental expenditures for salary, equipment and supplies; reportsover/under budget variances and recommends control measures within established timeframes.
  • Develops annual department operating and capital budget requests with justification and within established timelines.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies required to provide services; assures completion of appropriate requisition forms; reviewsall purchase requisitions for accuracy and appropriateness prior to approval; consults with Director as specified.
  • Conducts regularly scheduled staff meetings to explain administrative and department policies, improve communications,to identify and propose resolution of problems and to plan future activities.
  • Performs a comprehensive assessment of child's development, temperament, coping style, medical plan and availablesocial supports to develop an individualized treatment plan; utilizes therapeutic play techniques as a diagnostic andtreatment tool.
  • Facilitates a therapeutic play program which promotes self-healing, self-expression, understanding and mastery; involvesfamily and patient in selection of treatment goals, plans and implementation of daily child life activities.
  • Participates in weekly interdisciplinary team meetings/rounds to communicate the developmental status and individualneeds of each patient as well as the patient's perceptions of his /her diagnosis and treatment; communicates in a clear,concise and understandable manner.
