SUMMARY

The District Dietician is responsible for menu development, nutritional analysis,/standardized recipes and production records. Must ensure Texas Department of Agriculture and federal guidelines are followed. Implement nutrition education programs to support the district wellness program.

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES include the following:

  • Assist in developing cost effective menus that maintain nutrition integrity and meet local, state and federal guidelines and regulations
  • Assess customer preferences, industry trends, and current research to plan menus that encourage participation in the School Nutrition program
  • Nutrient analysis of menus to ensure adherence to federal requirements
  • Work with school staff, parents, and physicians to develop menus for children with special needs
  • Maintain nutrition software database
  • Ensure procurement of food, equipment and services needed for the department and make recommendations regarding which bids/proposals are in the overall best interest of the department and District
  • Oversee warehouse inventories of food/commodities/non food in correlation with procurement
  • Plan and implements nutrition education programs throughout the school district
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Provide staff training on menu planning software, food production records, point of sale.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive nutrition education program using school cafeterias as learning laboratories
  • Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, utilizing tact and diplomacy
  • Provide assistance and training to Managers with work schedules, reports, grocery orders, and inventory
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of School Nutrition


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises school cafeteria staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition

Registered and licensed Dietitian Preferred

Professional Food Manager Certification, can obtain once employed

Continuing Education:

12 hours of annual required continuing education/training.

Attend meetings, seminars, and workshops to keep abreast of current policies and procedures
