Job Description
The Associate, Outreach is responsible for conducting outreach activities as defined by BSH. Outreach occurs minimally twice a week during late night and daytime hours. At which time, the outreach associates provide essential tools to those in survival mode. This means providing resources and referrals to those who are in high risk sexual and drug use areas. The Associate, Outreach must stay well-informed about risks, vulnerabilities, needs and opportunities for populations served, and opportunities impacting the organization's mission, vision, values, policies and the community served. In addition, the Associate, Outreach ensures that referrals to community support services are accomplished with the highest level of excellence, integrity, compassion and effectiveness, promptly.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Operate Maryland Safe Haven's twelve-passenger van or other types of vehicle as required.
  • Inspect vehicle gas, oil, air tire, and water levels before departure.
  • Drive vehicles over specified routes to specified destinations according to time schedules, complying with traffic regulations to ensure that passengers have a smooth and safe ride.
  • Safely park vehicles so that staff can board and serve clients
  • Transport, load/unload and lift materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ensure all passengers are correctly seated and answer questions about transportation routes.
  • Canvas the city streets to look for homeless citizens and other at-risk clients, such as sex workers, needing assistance with health and wellness items.
  • Distribute wellness materials, flyers/brochures, and other informational documents to clients.
  • Maintain/update service records with observations and related information in CRM, worksheets, or other appropriate documentation methods.
  • Effectively report incidents and requests/needs of the clients.
  • Advise leadership, clients, and community groups on needs and issues related to improving general health, such as community programs and social services.
  • Provide essential health care services such as HIV testing and administering and training clients on NARCAN overdose prevention.
  • Assist staff in working seasonal Friday's, Saturday's and/or Sunday's, also; participate in BSH Events during the day/evening in lieu of outreach that night.
  • Attend weekly and or monthly meetings with BSH staff and the outreach team
  • Others duties as assigned
Requirements

Required Education and Experience:
  • Valid Driver's License required
  • Clean Driving Record required
  • Bilingual preferred (español) but not required
  • Certified HIV tester preferred OR willing to become an accredited tester.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Extensive knowledge of the needs and experiences of TLGBQ people, especially people who are transgender
  • Ability to provide visionary and strategic leadership and translate that vision into measurable strategies and concrete actions that advance the mission
  • Experience in clinical supervision and program management
  • Mastery and understanding of Trauma-Informed Care models of treatment
  • Strong leadership, supervisory skills, and knowledge
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Intermediate to advanced computing skills, including word processing, e-mail, calendars, forms, spreadsheets, databases, reports.
  • Experience with case management systems
