Position can be Full or Part-time, with a flexible schedule. Job Summary: The Spiritual and Palliative Care Coordinator is responsible for the provision of spiritual, emotional, and counseling support to meet the needs of our residents, families, and staff in ways which are consistent with Kendal at Hanover’s values and practices. The position is also responsible for the implementation, coordination and delivery of all activities related to the spiritual services program.

Summary of Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct spiritual support and/or counsel to residents and family in keeping with their personal belief system.
  • Work with staff, clergy, and community groups to enhance sensitivity to the spiritual concerns of resident/family experiencing terminal illness and loss.
  • Plans and implements educational programs for staff, residents, and families based on assessment of need for cumulative loss, grief, and related topics.
  • Contact clergy or appropriate representatives of resident and family as indicated.
  • Perform occasional religious assignments as requested.
  • Develop and maintain a resource group of clergies to whom specific aspects of spiritual care may be delegated.


Education and/or Experience
  • The right candidate will hold certification in Philosophy, Religion, Pastoral Care, Death Doula, Holistic Care/Services or other related field.
  • Experience in working with residents/families dealing with life-threatening illness and death.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare or social services setting, preferably in a senior living or long-term care environment (preferred but not required).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with proven ability to build rapport and establish trust.
  • Knowledge of psycho-social and spiritual issues commonly faced by older adults.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team and collaborate with diverse professionals.
