Board Member Position Description
Rock Recovery exists to bring people from darkness into light, from depression to joy, from anxiety to peace, from hopelessness to hope, from confusion to clarity, from isolation to community, from misinformed to educated, from being overwhelmed to being equipped, and from the lies of captivity into the truth of lasting freedom.
Rock Recovery strives to eradicate mental health stigma and spread awareness around eating disorders and provides affordable and transformational resources to those struggling and their support networks. Since 2009, the organization has served more than 150 adults through affordable clinical outpatient recovery programs and educated more than 15,000 community members to seek help for themselves or their loved ones. We bridge gaps in resources for eating disorder treatment and education by removing the barriers of mental health stigma, treatment cost and accessibility and by connecting people to community and care.
As a Christian organization, we believe it is critical to provide care for the whole person – mind, body and spirit. Our doors are open to all who wish to partake in their journey to freedom with us without regard to religion, race, or any other factor. Our vision is for a world where eating disorders are understood, and the journey to freedom within one’s own personal faith is fully supported.
We are seeking people who are invested in our mission to be a part of our work as members of our Board of Directors. As you consider submitting an application to serve on our Board, we encourage you to review the key principles of board service, along with our expectations for Board members, below.
Key Principles of Board Service
The Board of Directors is legally responsible for the management of the affairs of Rock Recovery. The principal role of the board of RR is to act as the steward of the charitable assets of the organization. The Board must also ensure that resources and efforts remain focused on the mission of Rock Recovery.
Our Expectations
All members of the Rock Recovery Board are expected to:
- Contribute to strategic planning and review the results achieved by the organization.
- Actively support the fundraising and related revenue goals of the organization including personally raising or donating at least $5,000 a year.
- Accept the legal and fiduciary responsibilities for the organization, as described above and in our Bylaws: review and revise Rock’s bylaws and board policies as the organization grows and adapts.
- Recruit new board members as vacancies occur; appraise, advise, support, reward, and when necessary, recruit/hire Rock Recovery’s Executive Director.
- Represent Rock to the general public, local community, and target audiences
- Understand and feel comfortable with the faith-based values of Rock Recovery.
Joining a Board is a decision that should not be taken lightly. Proper stewardship requires active participation, including:
- Attending monthly, 60-minute Board Meetings
- Attending an annual Board Retreat (typically one full day)
- Engaging in communications and activities regarding governance, fundraising, and community engagement
