Physical Therapist Assistant

- POSITION SUMMARY
- Performs selected patient treatments under the general supervision of the Supervising and/or Staff Physical Therapist, Director, or his or her designee, and has the responsibility for the overall direction, utilization, supervision, instruction, and evaluation of supportive staff, volunteers, and students utilized in the department/facility.
- RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Treatment Quality:
- Ensures that Physical Therapy Practices are consistent with the American Physical Therapy Association Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice and Standards of Practice policy in this manual. • Treats patients of all ages (e.g., infants, children, adolescents, adults, geriatrics, elderly, ages 0-120 years), race, creed, gender, and disability without bias or prejudice. • Demonstrates respect and understanding of the patient's right to treatment and right to involvement in treatment decisions. Patient- centric shared decision making. • Practices ethical responsibility based on the cultural, ethnic, and religious beliefs of the patients served as applicable by law.
- Maintains a level of care consistent with the plan of care in regards to specific therapeutic or manual interventions along with other modalities deemed appropriate for the patient by the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Confers with the Physical Therapist most closely associated with the active management of the patient to keep them informed of any additional patient needs, treatment modification, and/or progress.
- Treatment Quantitative:
- Maintains a patient treatment schedule consistent with the needs of the department/facility.
- Practices caseload management as it pertains to NS, CXL and reschedules including communication with supervising Physical Therapist. Follows Plan of Care established by the Physical Therapist including appropriate frequency, progressions, and interventions.
- Billing/CPT or RVU matches the time spent with patient, within department standards.
- Records and Reports:
- Prepares and submits department/facility reports, assuring confidentiality of all records:
- Completes Discharge reports/summaries in conjunction with supervising Physical Therapist.
- Assists supervising Physical Therapists in the completion of Progress Notes and communication with referring physicians and agencies.
- Daily notes completed in a timely fashion while supporting medical necessity
- Special reports as requested by the Director and or Manager
- Prepares and submits department/facility reports, assuring confidentiality of all records:
- Professional Status and Public Relations:
- Maintains current professional knowledge of techniques and trends
- Attends continuing education, meetings, or special courses whenever possible and shares gained information with the department/facility personnel.
- Prepares and presents educational presentations to community groups as requested.
- Maintains positive public relations with all community sources.

- Willingly provides coverage, volunteers assistance, and maintains workflows within department as needed without direct instruction/supervision.
- Works cooperatively and refrains from participating in negative conversations.

- Works to solve problems and address conflicts with appropriate person directly before involving leadership or uninvolved peers.
- Is considerate of others in the work environment with regard to taking breaks or meal periods, use of computer and phone, noise level in the department, etc.

- QUALIFICATIONS
- Education, Experience, Certification and Licensure Requirements:
- Must be a graduate of an approved Physical Therapy Assistant program with a preferred minimum of two (2) years orthopedic department/facility experience, however new graduates with orthopedic clinical experience are encourage to apply. Must have, or be eligible for, State Licensure or Registration. Registration must be obtained within one (1) year, or as per state law. Must maintain and provide verification card for CPR certification including BLS/AED training.
