Social Worker Clinical Manager

Job Summary :

To assist with the daily business operations as a Clinical Manager of the Transitions of Care Department with primary focus on the oversight of activities in the Emergency Department and on evening, nights and weekends. The Clinical Manager will act as a clinical resource to the Transition Care staff including nurses, social workers, administrative assistants, UR coordinators, status coordinators, Team Leads and pre-cert specialist. The Clinical Manager also serves as a resource to other hospital departments and the general community. Additional responsibility could include other TOC service areas such as Case Management, Oncology, PEDS, Paramedicine, Care Transitions, etc based on department needs and collaboration with other Clinical Manager.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Coordinates and maintains proper staffing levels of ER social services, evening, nights and weekend staff.
2. Assures availability to address staffing inconsistencies including coverage for approved open shifts, unexpected absences, issues related to overnight on-call, increased census or requests of Transition of Care staff.
3. Manages quarterly master schedules ensuring timely adjustments are reflected in the electronic document working closely with Kronos (payroll) designee.
4. Provides leadership, supervision, team meetings, orientation, and training, coaching, and mentoring to departmental clinicians with assignments in ER and on weekends, evening and nights. Identifies educational needs and participates in plan for education based on departmental needs. As requested by the Director, participates in hiring of new staff and with the completion of performance evaluation.
5. Coordinates and monitors the delivery of patient care and services in ER and on weekends, evenings and nights to ensure efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. Assures adequate productivity of staff, the provision of expertise and direction for complex problem solving, and the development of resources for the provision of optimal care.
6. Participates in house wide performance improvement and quality initiatives, task forces, and project groups as assigned by Director.
7. Program development and representation at initiatives related to ER programs and the provision of care working in conjunction with other services lines as indicated. Plays an active role during Incident Command and all disaster protocols.
8. Monitors the judicious use of public relations fund (charitable resources).
9. Assists Director in development, monitoring, and revisions of departmental policy and procedures.


Education and Experience Required:
1. Master's Degree (within 1 year) in Social Work from an accredited college or university or
2. Bachelor's Degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
3. Broad responsibility directly related to work experience in clinical, administrative and managerial positions in healthcare or related field.

Mandatory Licensure/Certifications:

License/Certification: LSW or LCSW - Licensed Clinical Social Worker credential from the State of Indiana, Professional Licensing Board. LSCSW required within 2 years of positions assignment or current licensure by the Indiana State Board of Nurses' Registration and Nursing Education as an active Registered Nurse
