Position: School Guidance Counselor

Location: Caledonia High School

Reports To: High School Principal

Compensation: Per the bargaining unit agreement

Start Date: 2024-2025 School Year

Position Summary

Under the direction of the building principal, the guidance counselor plans and provides appropriate services for students. The counselor creates and maintains an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of all students. Monitor and evaluate student outcomes. Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff, and community.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Provide counseling to address social and emotional concerns and appropriately refer students to behavioral health specialists.
  • Communicates, coordinates, and collaborates with behavioral health specialists in developing and implementing student support.
  • Provides career counseling services to students through the EDP process.
  • Assists administration and students in scheduling appropriate classes.
  • Conducts senior audits annually.
  • Maintains student transcripts.
  • Participates in 504 and IEP planning meetings.
  • Serves as the 504 case manager for students on their caseload
  • Coordinates scholarship/awards.
  • Plans and promotes programs that enhance the academic, social, or emotional growth of students (Dual enrollment, advanced placement, career fair, honors assemblies, commencement, opportunities for student enrichment and/or remediation, scholarship opportunities, and parent informational programs).
  • Organizes and promotes standardized assessment opportunities and interpreting test results to students and/or parents upon request.
  • Facilitates individual, small group, and large group meetings on topics of student interests and/or needs.
  • Maintains a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality about all district-related matters and records.
  • Identify, recruit, and connect local resources to meet schools' human service, behavioral health, and medical health needs.
  • Perform any other job responsibilities deemed appropriate by building or district administrators.
Employment Qualifications

EDUCATION: This position requires possession of an NT endorsement/Michigan Teaching Certificate or School Counselor License. Temporary SCL may also be considered.

EXPERIENCE: Preference will be given to those candidates with prior experience and full approval.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No supervisory responsibilities.
