Summary:

Nurse Access Navigator:

  • Responsible for assignments in Access to ensure the optimal patient flow and placement to maximize the use of available bed capacity for Towson and Baltimore Washington acute care inpatient psychiatric beds. Under the supervision of Sr. Director of Operations and Analytics, serves as the communication
    liaison between the bed manager, the screening provider, and access coordinators. Assists nursing admissions process as available
  • Work requires graduation from an accredited program of nursing and possession of a current RN license in the State of Maryland or possession of American Nurses Credentialing Center certification as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
  • Work requires at least three years of psychiatric nursing experience, with at least two years in an inpatient environment. BSN is preferred for Registered Nurses. Experience must include:
    •comprehensive knowledge of psychiatric nursing,
    •strong clinical and organizational skills
    •knowledge of the specialized needs of varying patient populations,
    •demonstrated ability to build collaborative work relationships,
    •proven ability to make effective clinical recommendations in the moment,
    •general knowledge of TJC and regulatory requirements,
    •computer skills that include familiarity with electronic health records and Microsoft Suite
  • Computer skills competency in email/Word/Excel. Knowledge of IDX and Sunrise is a plus
  • Work requires multi-tasking and the ability to set priorities.
  • Work requires substantial interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with Health System staff.
  • Work requires analytical skills sufficient to assess the psychiatric dysfunction of patients, determine the need for appropriate placement, and handle administrative details
  • Work requires the ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when assessing the
    psychiatric placement of patients, gathering and analyzing data, managing priorities, and entering
    patient data into the computer, and frequently produces a high level of mental/visual fatigue and
    stress (51-80% of work time).
