Summary
Serves as a Medical Technician in the clinical laboratory of the USPHS Indian Hospital at Cass Lake, MN. The technician has the responsibility, under the supervision and guidance of the Supervisory Clinical Laboratory Scientist and/or a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, for performing a variety of procedures to include complex analysis of specimens, using as well as maintaining and troubleshooting equipment and setting up and monitoring quality control by using detailed instructions/guidelines.
Duties- Performs quality control, calibration and basic instrument maintenance on all equipment and testing platforms.
- Conducts varied and complex clinical laboratory tests and examinations.
- Performs patient phlebotomy by venipuncture and capillary methods.
- Participates in proficiency testing and reporting of test results.
- Performs clerical duties such as filing laboratory reports, sending faxes, answering phone and using an electronic health record.
Must pass pre-employment examination.

Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Specialized ExperienceFor positions at GS-4 and above: (a) Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications for GS-06: 1 Year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 Grade Level. Specialized Experience is defined as experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Examples include: Performing calibration, preventative maintenance and diagnostic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment; technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings; technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work that required application of the methods and techniques for the position of Medical Technician.
Minimum Qualifications for GS-07: 1 Year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 Grade Level. Examples include: Performing calibration, preventative maintenance and diagnostic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment; preparing solutions, stains, reagents and media required for performing tests and examinations; technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings; or technical support work in a closely related field, e.g.,biological laboratory technician work that required application of the methods and techniques for the position of Medical Technician.
