Responsibilities Performs quality control, calibration and basic instrument maintenance on all equipment and testing platforms. Conducts varied and complex clinical laboratory tests and examinations. Performs patient phlebotomy by venipuncture and capillary methods. Participates in proficiency testing and reporting of test results. Examples include: Performing calibration, preventative maintenance and diagnostic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment; preparing solutions, stains, reagents and media required for performing tests and examinations; technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings; or technical support work in a closely related field, e.g.,biological laboratory technician work that required application of the methods and techniques for the position of Medical Technician. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized. At least a 6 month service agreement will be required. This position has promotion potential to the GS-07 grade level.
