JOB PURPOSE

The Geographical Information System (GIS) Technician position is responsible for producing thematic maps and figures for the clients deliverables and providing GIS assistance to the technical staff.

The GIS Technician position's primary role is to produce maps to supplement various environmental permitting and assessment documents created by Company's technical staff. The GIS Technician will manage spatial data, manipulate GIS layers, and produce cartographic maps. The GIS position also updates, maintains, uploads, transfers, and analyzes data from the Company's Global Positioning Systems (GPS) units.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide GIS assistance to technical staff, clients, vendors, and government personnel

• Create maps and figures, using GIS software ( ArcGIS) and data collection equipment

• Strategize with technical staff and clients to problem solve regarding data shown on figures and potential approaches for addressing issues and to best represent the data spatially and non-spatially

• Build and Maintain GIS databases

• Utilize GIS software to analyze spatial and non-spatial information

• Perform geospatial modeling or analysis

• Data management of GPS units

• Manage tasks to ensure documents are completed in a timely, efficient manner

• Communicate technical information to nontechnical audiences

• Ability to maintain company and client confidentiality

• Able to follow established procedures and abide by Company policies

• Submit weekly summaries to supervisor and office manager

• Complete other tasks as directed

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Proficient use of ArcGIS

• Must be proficient to so 3D modeling

• Knowledge in AutoCAD and geospatial analysis

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Software, with remarkable attention to detail

• Work independently with minimal supervision, and complete multiple tasks under tight deadlines and sometimes variable schedules (i.e., evening and weekend work occasionally necessary to meet client deadlines)

• Must be a team player with excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

• Excellent organizational, time management, and client service skills

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in related field (i.e., environmental planning/science, geography, or other natural resources degree)

• Must have at least 1 years working experience wi th Arc GIS and 3D modeling.
