Description
The Health and Safety Support Specialist is responsible for supporting the implementation of employee safety policies in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations. This position works closely with the Senior Health and Safety Operations Manager Vice President of Human Resources, Department Heads and Human Resources Manager to establish and maintain safety in the workplace.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following statements describe the principal functions of this position and the scope of responsibility, but should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. - Maintains safety files, records, and training logs
- Fosters compliance with the company's safety program
- Assist with the maintenance of the Company's Mass notification system and related programs
- Maintain safety related rosters, lists and sign in sheets
- Maintain and distribute company emergency "Red Folder"
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Assist Resident Services with safety inspections and investigations of community accidents, help identify potential safety hazards, investigate trips and falls to include investigative reports, insurance and related liability issues and determine corrective or preventive measures.
- Serves on the Safety Committee and ensures that appropriate minutes are taken and filed for each committee meeting, host monthly safety Zoom meetings.
- Conducts annual review of MVRs to ensure that all company drivers meet the criteria to drive company vehicles.
- Works with employees and management to provide training, development, and dissemination of Company safety policies and procedures
- Inspects worksites to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determine corrective or preventive measures where indicated, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented
- Issues safety warnings or safety citations for serious or repeated safety violations
- Inspects work in the field including with subcontractors and vendors to ensure compliance with company safety practices.
- Posts information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions
- Participates in the investigation of workplace accidents and the filing of accident reports required by regulatory agencies including MVRs on driver reports
- Supports the worker's compensation program, including invoicing, working with the insurance company to reduce employee's lost time, accident reporting, and injury logs
- Administers the drug-free workplace program
- Assists the Senior Health and Safety Operations Manager in inspecting safety equipment on a regular basis (AEDs, fire extinguishers, etc.)
- Conduct facility safety inspections.
- Conducts surprise fire drills on a quarterly basis
- May represent the organization at job fairs, career fairs for high schools and in safety awareness programs
- Assists in the Company's wellness initiatives (Health Fair, wellness newsletters, etc.)
- Assists in community security, disaster preparedness, and other areas as required
- Assists in HR-related tasks as needed (recruiting, employee appreciation events, etc.)
- Build safety representative team.
- Maintains confidentiality of all HR information
- Performs all duties in adherence to OTOW standards
- Strives to maintain a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices
- Maintains a positive and professional demeanor toward all residents, visitors and co-workers
- Performs other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Investigation experience preferred
- Safety-related certifications preferred
- CPR Trainer certifications preferred
- Must be able to read, write and understand English and have strong verbal and written communication skills, bilingual preferred.
- Proficient Microsoft Office skills, with an ability to become familiar with company-specific programs
- Knowledge of OSHA and federal safety regulations
- Working knowledge of general liability and workers comp insurance reporting
