Software Engineer Intro

We are currently looking for a Software Engineer to work Onsite preferred (can be hybrid) located in Overland Park, KS USA. In this position, the Software Engineer would develop/write new code for an existing system at both the embedded and application level.

2 month contract with potential for extension.

Software Engineer Job Details

The responsibilities of the Software Engineer include software development, bug fixing, and product life cycle engineering for our client's NAVAID and non-radar surveillance products. This software development includes working on embedded software in a Linux/Unix environment. It is important the candidate lives up to their schedule commitments and produces high-quality solutions. They are responsible for their assignments and for working with their product leads if there is some part of the functionality not understood.

The Software Engineer will report directly to the local Engineering Manager of the business segment.

Essential Functions / Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Performs embedded software development in support of navigation aids and non-radar surveillance functionality
- Performs software development for the processing of VHF RF information
- Primarily develops embedded software in C
- Develops Windows-based application software in C++
- Develops software using an Eclipse-based IDE
- Develops using Code Composer Studio for embedded software and Visual Studio for applications
- Participates in the integration of software and hardware
- Supports configuration management activities for design qualification testing
- Utilizes a problem reporting tool to document product issues
- Participates in peer reviews of system requirements, design, code, and tests
- Provides regular status reports to the software lead

Software Engineer Mandatory Skills

- Bachelor's Degree in a technical subject (e.g. Computer Science or Software Engineering) with a minimum of 5+ years of relevant work experience
- Proficient in programming in C and C++
- Proven experience programming both embedded and Windows application software
- Has participated in the integration of software design projects
- Self-motivated, critical thinker with a strong curiosity to learn
- Must be a self-starter and motivated to work in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel
- Must be a US person as defined by applicable law

Software Engineer Desired Skills

- Familiarity with microcontrollers, TI Hercules preferred
- Experience working through the complete software development lifecycle (SDLC)
- Familiar with the use of issue tracking software (e.g. Jira)
- Familiarity with Navigational Aid RF signal in space functionality
