At-Risk Computer Lab Instructional Assistant

The position of a At-Risk Computer Lab Instructional Assistant will be available at East Central ISD for the 2024-2025 school year. All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website. PRIMARY PURPOSE: Provide supplemental academic and computer lab management duties within East Central High School At-Risk program and work cohesively with others to ensure the overall success of its students. The position will work under the general supervision of campus administration and the immediate direction of certified teachers on a daily basis.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Assist in the supervisorial and academic oversight of at-risk students, specifically those assigned to East Central's Learning Academy Program.
  2. Continuously assist with daily at-risk program and student data collections, lab/classroom maintenance, and monitoring of at-risk students that may include but are not limited to attendance, progress monitoring, behavior checks, and other duties attached to the at-risk program and students.
  3. Acquire and maintain a depth of understanding to efficiently manage a campus computer lab and its various educational computer-based programs and software (i.e. Edgenuity, A+).
  4. Work well and positively interact with at-risk students who may be struggling with behavior in the classroom.
  5. Monitor, inform, teach, and support students daily in the learning of campus norms and behavioral expectations, including social skills.
  6. Communicate and coordinate daily with administration and teachers on assignments, materials, or special instructional needs.
  7. Assist, redirect and guide at-risk students when necessary for accurate and timely completion of course assignments and mastery of skills for graduation purposes.
  8. Be readily available, self-motivated, and flexible to support and assist as needed the campus administration, teachers, and staff, including substitutes in meeting the academic, behavioral, and programmatic needs of the campus.
  9. Professionally and effectively perform daily duties as outlined and defined on-campus schedule and designed to maintain and support a highly structured, orderly environment for the campus.
  10. Maintain confidentiality.
  11. Perform duties with a minimum of supervision.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned and that align to improving the services for East Central High School designated at-risk programs and students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
High School diploma or GED
Must have one of the following:
  • 48 college hours with some emphasis on child growth or development or related area
  • Treasuring our Paraprofessionals certificate

Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Experience working with children; at-risk students preferred
Ability to communicate effectively (orally and writing)

EQUIPMENT USED: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals, standard instructional equipment

WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent interruptions. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, pushing, and lifting. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint, and assist non-ambulatory students. Must be able to lift and carry potentially heavy items (up to 45 pounds). Exposure to biological hazards. Work predominantly inside and exposure to noise; may work outside with exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather, too. Normal classroom environment.
