Summary:
The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) provides safe and effective services including the evaluation and treatment of persons with speech, language, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders. The SLP evaluates, selects and applies goal directed interventions for the treatment or prevention of these impairments/functional limitations to achieve maximum Independence. The SLP has the ultimate responsibility for the provision of services including the supervision of speech language pathology support personnel. All services are provided in a manner that promotes the highest level of satisfaction in all customers. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:
• Delivers services consistent with the established RUSH Oak Park Hospital Mission and Philosophy.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and respects the rights and dignity of all individuals.
• Complies with current ASHA Code of Ethics and state licensure laws.
• Based on the patient's cognitive, physical and functional status, uses safe and appropriate guarding techniques and
assistive/adaptive devices.
• Maintains knowledge of policies concerning precautions, codes, conditions, warnings and general safety procedures.
• Communicates effectively with patients and care givers at levels appropriate to their age, cognitive status and
language abilities.
• Interacts and practices in collaboration with a variety of professionals.
• Participates in patient related conferences, organizational, and professional meetings as required.
• Documents on an ongoing basis services provided, response to services, and changes in status related to the careplan.
• Assumes responsibility and accountability for assigned patients and provides speech therapy evaluations,
treatments and services in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
• Selects, administers, and adapts the content of patient evaluations according to ASHA Standards of Practice.
• Establishes functional and measurable goals in accordance with the patient's level of function, age, length of stay
• And discharge disposition of the person served.
• Provides patient and family teaching.
• Terminates services when maximum benefit is received, completes a comprehensive discharge plan based on age,
diagnosis, support, cultural background, physical and cognitive strengths and limitations of the person served.
• Makes appropriate and judicious use of group and /or joint treatment sessions.
• Maintains productivity level established by department policy.
• Schedules and prioritizes workload.
• Provides service as assigned based on census and patient needs.
• Identifies professional strengths, areas of refinement and assumes responsibility for professional growth.
• Participates in continuing education opportunities, department education and mandatory education.
• Participates in the fieldwork education process by establishing a supportive environment while supervising SLP
SLP students.
• Clinically assists, supervises and provides education / instruction to facilitate professional growth of SLP personnel.
• Assists with the orientation of new employees.
• Assists in performance improvement and supports developmental and quality focused initiatives.
• Contributes to the cost effectiveness of services and programs provided by the department.
• Communicates suggestions related to opportunities for improvement and maintaining positive relations with all
Customers.
• Available to work weekends and holidays

Other information:
Required Job Qualifications:
• Master's Degree (or greater) in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
• Current Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech Language Pathology, or eligibility following completion of the Clinical Fellowship year.

Preferred Job Qualifications:
• Applicable assessment and treatment knowledge to provide services to various patient populations.
• Understanding of state, federal, and professional practice laws, regulations and preferred practice patterns.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Flexibility and ability to manage work in a changing environment.
• 1 - 3 years of experience.

Physical Demands:
• Bending, twisting, reaching, pulling, pushing, balancing, crouching, stooping, standing, sitting, climbing, kneeling and
• Walking about >75% of the day.
• Ability to carry 10 - 25Ibs and lift 25 - 50Ibs.

Competencies:
• Technical skills required to adapt equipment, ambulate, seating, positioning, transfers.
• Analytical skills are required to evaluate patients and their response to treatment.
• Customer service and service recovery skills are required to effectively meet the needs of patients, families and members of the Interdisciplinary healthcare team on an almost constant basis.
• Excellent written, verbal and Interpersonal communication skills.
• Flexibility and ability to manage work flow in a changing environment.
• Understanding and ability to operate wheelchairs/seating and positioning, Visipitch, Loquitur, Electrolarynges, Voice Amplifier, Passey Muir Valves, Video chair, Swallowing/VFE, Traches/Vents, pocket talker, electronics, computer, telephone, printer, fax, copier.
