DEPARTMENTAL SUMMARY: The Rehabilitation Department provides therapy and nursing services to patients, families and patient's caregivers including: Rehabilitation Nursing Care, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Language Pathology. Our department operates as a system department and provides services to Acute Care, Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility, Home Health and Outpatient settings across four campuses. Our Rehabilitation departments offer a variety of specialty services across the various services delivery areas.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Physical Therapist evaluates, plans, and provides treatment and rehabilitation as prescribed by a referring physician. Works with family and team members regarding patient's abilities and goals.

This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

Adheres to Oregon State Physical Therapy Licensing Board.

Provides physical therapy evaluation and treatment to achieve desired outcomes.

Provides staff consultation and training.

Provides community resource knowledge and referral services.

Provides physical therapy services to other hospital service areas.

May be required to drive Rehabilitation van and meet all related SCHS vehicle policy requirements.

Functions as a member of the Interdisciplinary Care Team to assure patient care is accomplished effectively and efficiently in a cost effective manner.

Participates in clinical care conferencing.

Gathers data and accurately documents information in a timely manner demonstrating compliance with departmental and professional regulations.

Participates with team members in facilitating patient's and family's learning throughout continuum of care. Reinforces patient's continued health care through teaching and/or referral to community agency follow-up.

EDUCATION:

Required: Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from a college or university accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

Required: Must have necessary requisites for licensure as a Physical Therapist by the Oregon State Board of Health. Valid Oregon driver's license and ability to meet St. Charles Health System driving requirements. Ability to travel to business functions/trainings/meetings and all St. Charles Health System worksites.

Current AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification

Preferred: Preferably a member in good standing of the American Physical Therapy Association

EXPERIENCE:

Required: Must have one year experience with therapy procedures, current orthopedic and neurological follow-up procedures, and rehabilitation practices.

Preferred: Previous physical therapy experience in hospital-based setting.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:

Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES SPECIFIC TO FLEX FLOAT POSITION:

1. Flex-Float staff are required to drive for patient service delivery.

2. Flex-Float staff typically sign-up 2 months in advance into existing openings in the schedule. Priority will be given to covering existing openings in the schedule.

3. The staffing coordinator will add the Flex Float to days above core staffing two weeks prior to the start of the schedule if needed to meet the benefited hours of the caregiver.

4. If the flex float therapist has a non-work conflict and is not able to sign up into existing work openings in order to meet benefited hours, they will be required to use ETO.

5. Two weeks prior to the beginning of the next pay period, the schedule will be set and assigned days will not be changed by the staffing coordinator without approval from the Flex-float therapist permission.

6. Location/department assignments may be adjusted by the staffing coordinator at any time, including the "day of" in order to meet patient care demands related to staffing changes, system staffing needs, or the required skill mix for specific areas.

7. Flex-Float therapists are expected to work the shift hours of the therapist they are covering unless prearranged/preapproved with the staffing coordinator or management.

8. Schedules will include a coverage target of 2 weekend days per pay period. (Exceptions may occur if the Flex Float's benefited hours are met while assigned to cover a leave of absence or planned ETO.)

9. Flex-Float positions will be included in the regular census driven call off (HR call-off) rotation

10. Therapists who scheduled above their benefited hours or who are scheduled into overtime, will be considered for first call off based on census.

11. Flex-Float positions will be included in the holiday schedule rotation/selection process and in the required standby day rotation process.
