The Triage Nurse assures that communication with each caller will be handled in a professional and tactful manner. When appropriate, the caller's symptoms will be assessed and triaged using the nursing process and approved guidelines in order to assist in obtaining the appropriate level of care and/or self-care advice. Required Skills Customer Services: Ability to communicate clearly and calmly with callers. Maintains communication between medical staff, administrative staff, and/or patient/families. Clinical Services: Manages nurse-directed patient telephone calls requesting health care services. Evaluates and assesses patient’s health care needs based on patient’s signs and symptoms utilizing established triage protocols, guidelines, and standing orders. Obtains appropriate input and direction from the provider as needed to determine best clinical course of action and recommendations for specific patient health care needs. Accurately documents symptoms / complaints, nursing assessment, advice provided and patient / caller response. Coordinate and schedule same-day appointments on the providers’ schedules. Manage prescription refills per protocol. Provide patient education: e.g., chronic disease, preventative and family. Assures that pertinent medical information is forwarded to proper departments as needed for continuity of patient care. Environmental Services: Contributes to the overall cleanliness and appearance of personal work space and department. Required Experience Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing school Work Experience: Previous experience in medical practice is preferred Required License/ Certification/Registration: Current Kentucky or Multi-State License. Basic Life Support Certification Skills: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, providers, coworkers, and medical service providers. Strong ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; thoughts are logical and clearly expressed. Knowledge of disease processes, normal growth and development of all age groups. Nursing assessment skills with / without visual inspection utilizing basic nursing theory. Strong organizational, judgment, communication, and analytical skills; sometimes under pressure. Excellent organizational abilities and documentation skills. Must be capable of making independent nursing decisions. Strong analytical ability. The ability to contribute in a team environment and/or independently in a professional and ethical manner, to provide excellent customer service. Strong interpersonal skills and phone etiquette with a professional and courteous manner required. Ability to promote favorable facility image with patients, providers, insurance companies and the general public. Athena knowledge a plus.
