Type: 6-month initial W2 contract (extensions/conversions possible)
Shift: Swing: M-F 12pm-8pm

Job Description:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Data Center Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional support to customers and internal teams by ensuring the seamless operation of our data center environment. This role demands strong technical aptitude, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a dynamic, 24/7 production environment.

Responsibilities:

Customer Support:
  • Resolve or escalate customer issues in a timely manner.
  • Provide proactive updates to customers and team members as necessary.
  • Take ownership of technical issues, collaborating with customers, partners, and internal departments to resolve problems.
  • Perform remote hands tasks for internal and external customers.
Operational Duties:
  • Review physical device alerts and conduct incident triage and escalation.
  • Provide local access and escort for vendors.
  • Perform data entry tasks related to infrastructure changes and customer installations.
  • Assist with or complete physical installations, including maintaining organized cabinets, cables, and cages.
  • Perform onsite hardware and systems support as instructed by partner teams.
  • Monitor data center infrastructure and environmental conditions, including conducting facilities rounds and escalating pertinent information.
Documentation & Reporting:
  • Update and maintain all relevant documentation, including troubleshooting and problem-resolution steps.
  • Complete End-of-Shift reports and workflow tasks within specified timelines.
  • Ensure compliance with data center policies, procedures, and scheduled training updates.
Maintenance & Inventory:
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the data center and supporting areas.
  • Manage inventory levels for cabling and other general use items.
  • Process inbound and outbound shipping and receiving tasks.
  • Perform cabling installation, including pulling and organizing cables following industry standards (e.g., 568A/B pinouts).
Facility Operations:
  • Report facility alarms promptly to the Facilities Operations Engineer.
  • Support infrastructure monitoring systems, including UPS, generators, HVAC, and PDUs.
  • Handle escalations for potential infrastructure or redundancy loss events.
Other Duties:
  • Climb ladders and work at heights as needed.
  • Operate pallet jacks and lift heavy objects safely.
  • Complete additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of experience in an IT support environment, preferably in a 24/7 production setting.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with a solid understanding of Microsoft operating systems and networking fundamentals (e.g., routing, subnets, communication protocols).
  • Technical aptitude in building management systems, including experience with UPS, generators, HVAC, PDUs, and AC/DC power systems.
  • Familiarity with cable standards, including color coding (tip/ring) and 568A/B pinouts.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work in cold environments, maneuver pallet jacks, and lift heavy objects.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and insurance.
  • Proficiency with tools and systems used for support tasks, with a commitment to staying current with new training updates.
  • Experience with building and maintaining a clean and organized data center environment.
  • Hands-on experience with cabling and infrastructure installations.
