The Skill builder works as part of a clinical team, lead by a therapist. The team works in the family home to preserve the family or reunify the family when children have been in foster care. Cases are referred by the Department of Health and Human Services, so the ability to work with collateral partners is crucial. The team develops a treatment plan with the family, and the skill builder works to teach hands on skills. The skill builder documents visits and writes a weekly report. Ability to work with all ages, diversity, and use effective problem solving skills is necessary.

  • The skill builder will Receive training in trauma informed practice and incorporates in day to day practice
  • The Skill builder will receive training in attachment theory as it relates to reunifying families who have been separated and uses in day to day practice
  • The skill builder will receive training on substance use disorder and the impact on families, and incorporates in day to day practice
  • The skill builder will have a flexible work schedule including on-call rotation
  • The skill builder will demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of child and adolescent development, domestic violence impact
  • Under the direction of the Therapist/Case Manager participate as a team member in the delivery of services to the family
  • Handles multiple priorities
  • Critical thinking skills, ability to conceptualize a case
  • Independent discretion/decision making within the scope and responsibility of the position
  • Manages stress appropriately
  • Works alone effectively
  • Seeks out help and asks for assistance as needed
  • Works in close proximity to others and/or in a distracting environment
  • The Skill Builder is an essential member of the service team assigned to each case.
  • Provides intensive, in-home family services assisting with referral and case plan goals.
  • Assists in providing support services as identified through various assessments, including the bio-psycho-social assessment, family conferencing team meetings, service delivery and day-to-day practices
  • Refer clients to community services and assist in arranging appointments as needed
  • Is knowledgeable of community services available
  • Participates in family team meetings, and in the team-decision making process
  • Represents Saint Francis in a professional manner with all collateral agencies
  • Support case plan goals through teaching, role modeling, and demonstration
  • Provides direct in-home services including but not limited to parenting skills, life skills, child development, and behavior management
  • Becomes familiar with and utilizes Strengthening Families curriculum
  • Schedule and supervise/monitor families’ interactions and transport children and families
  • Provides 24/7 crisis intervention for referred families including on-call rotation
  • Document all contacts with families and collaterals on agency database and complete all necessary SFCS forms and reports according to timelines
  • Attends court hearings and provides court testimony as needed
  • Assists Therapist/Case Manager in ensuring clients’ rights are protected
  • Reports critical incidents to DHHS verbally within 12 hours, written within 24 hours
  • Reports critical and unusual incidents to SFCS Risk Management Department, and Therapist/Case Manager.
  • Is knowledgeable of and follows all safety procedures
  • Implements SFCS policies and follows directives as required. Follows and adheres to all pertinent SFCS Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), rules, personnel policies and procedures; related accreditation and licensure standards; and federal, state and local rules, statutes, and regulations
  • Has working knowledge of and adheres to the Family Preservation contractual requirements outlined by the State of Nebraska DHHS
  • Submits weekly IFP/IFR reports to the therapist
  • Submits weekly Hours of contact to clinical director within timeframes required by contract to submit to NDHHS Salesforce site.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services field, psychology, family sciences
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must pass drug screen, Nebraska Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry Clearance check
  • Must have a valid NE driver’s license, acceptable driving record and reliable transportatio
  • Lifting requirement of 30 lbs.
  • Must have a minimum of 15 hours in-service education per year
  • Other duties as assigned
