Shipping Supervisor

Shipping Supervisor role includes, but is not limited to overseeing outbound shipments, customer orders, the loading and unloading of outbound products from trucks, and is responsible for the accuracy of shipments, as well as meeting all documented service requirements. This person plans, orders and direct all activities within the Shipping Department. This position reports to the Shipping Manager.

Requirements

Essential Functions:

  • Provides daily direction and leadership to the Shipping department team members
  • Makes recommendations for manpower needs, including involvement in the selection process, as well as employee terminations
  • Accountable for training, motivation and leadership within areas of responsibility
  • Develops a team work environment, builds departmental standards for performance
  • Ensures that materials shipped are verified against pertinent documentation
  • Establishes and maintains procedures for determining and meeting company and customer delivery commitments by handling materials, providing labor, and effective use of time
  • Recommends and assists in implementing operating procedures and promotes continual improvement within the department and the company
  • Follows shipping methods for materials using the operations procedures
  • Coordinates and schedules trucks to meet shipping demands
  • Monitors the quality, quantity, and efficiency of outbound shipments
  • Interfaces with customers regarding product delivery time schedules, coordinates vendor acceptance programs
  • Interfaces with other departments to resolve problems with timely delivery or disposition of order cancellations
  • Communicate status of operation in a timely manner to management
  • Ensures that daily goals are met and sustained daily/weekly/monthly
  • Ensures company policies and procedures are reviewed often and notifies management when such policies or procedures may need to be revised to increase work efficiency in the department
  • Identifies roadblocks to processes and procedures and offers suggestions for improvement
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and required
  • Knowledge of and experience with all shipping functions required
  • Knowledge of and experience with packaging materials used to safely transport all product required
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective distribution of goods
  • Strong and effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to follow and issue verbal and written instructions and to direct the work of others to meet customer needs
  • Ability to work well under pressure and juggle multiple and changing deadlines in a fast paced environment
  • Great attention to detail
  • Reliability and willingness to work 40+ hours a week to meet deadlines
  • Ability and willingness to take imitative
  • Strong and demonstrated leadership skills
  • Willingness to learn and work to the best of his/her ability
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Required Work Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience or demonstrated supervisory skills required
