Houston Marriott Westchase Hotel is looking for Full-Time Kitchen Stewards.

Position Summary: As a Steward, you would be responsible for transporting and cleaning cooking utensils and service ware in the hotel's continuing effort to deliver outstanding guest service and financial profitability. Your primary responsibility is to clean and sanitize restaurant, banquet, and kitchen utensils, dishes, pots, and pans, in addition to properly moving the cleaned dishes and related flatware/service ware items in their designated storage areas following established best practices and procedures.

The successful candidate demonstrates a proactive approach to teamwork, supporting the kitchen culinary team when and where it is needed.

Scheduling: This is a Full-Time position that requires open availability, including weekends and holidays, based on business needs. The schedule will change weekly to support operational requirements.

Specifically, you will be responsible for performing the following tasks in the hotel kitchen to the highest standards:
  • Wash dishes and operate dishwasher to clean chinaware, silverware, and cooking utensils.
  • Scrub pots and pans; Burnish, de-tarnish, and polish silver.
  • Clean kitchen and restaurant dining room areas, including mopping and removing trash.
  • Detail kitchen equipment and ware washing stations.
  • Prepare, transport, and store cleaned service ware, service equipment, and display ware.
  • Ensure floors are always kept dry and clean.
  • Collect and remove trash, ensuring proper disposal both inside hotel and outside the dock.
  • Adhere to all health and safety food handling and sanitation regulations and guidelines.
  • Assist cooks and servers with food prep.
  • Support culinary staff and fellow kitchen stewards as needed.

Qualifications
  • Moves pots and pans, chinaware, silverware, and cooking utensils.
  • Moves equipment and dish carts.
  • Positions self to clean commercial-grade kitchen equipment, including under and above counters and shelves.
  • Capable of remaining in a standing position, either stationary or walking, for duration of 8-hr shift.
  • Moves throughout kitchen and storage areas to clean, sanitize, and put away dishes in a timely manner.
  • Capable of frequent and repeated lifting, bending, stooping, and extending arms, to perform essential job functions.
  • Ability to observe and adhere to all Health and Safety regulations and company guidelines for food handling, cross-contamination protocols, and sanitation.
SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS: The hotel functions seven (7) days a week and twenty-four (24) hours per day. Due to the seasonal nature and business hours of a hotel, candidates must realize it may be necessary to move an employee from their accustomed shift as business demands. All associates are expected to perform any other duties as requested by management to support other departments and/or operational requirements.

Experience

Hotel or restaurant dishwashing experience preferred, but not required.

Licenses or Certificates

Ability to provide or obtain the Food Handler License issued by an accredited food handler training program in the state of Texas.

Grooming/Uniforms

All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance. Specific uniform guidelines and/or required articles of clothing will be explained to you as a part of the orientation process.
