Marketing Statement:

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, Occupational Health and Wellness Department, is seeking an experienced Physical Therapist, Clinical Services Program, who will be responsible for delivering care with a high degree of expertise within the specialty of Occupational Medicine. Under the guidance of the Medical Director, Clinical Services Program, the incumbent works independently and collaborates with Clinicians, Occupational Health Nurses, as well as all Occupational Health & Wellness¿ programs, to include, Wellness & Health Strategy, Americans with Disabilities Act Compliance, and the Employee Assistance Program, providing quality occupational healthcare to Metro employees. The incumbent participates in cross departmental case management meetings with Workforce Availability, Operations, Worker¿s Compensation Office, Labor Relations, and Management, to discuss overall employee progress and make any necessary adjustments to return-to-work plans. The Physical Therapist offers a holistic approach to patient/employee care; designing exercise programs tailored to the specific needs of the workforce with a focus on musculoskeletal dysfunction and providing education and training to employees on proper body mechanics, ergonomics, and injury prevention strategies; helping employees to understand how to take care of their bodies at work. This role is critical to the Occupational Health and Wellness, Clinical Services Program, and requires a dependable and highly organized individual who communicates effectively, is an adept problem-solver, and skilled multitasker.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • A Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education-accredited physical therapist education program.
Experience
  • One (1) year of experience working as a licensed physical therapist providing care to the various patient populations, including patients at widely varying ages. Must have the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her specific population and age needs.
Certification/Licensure
  • Maryland Physical Therapy license and must maintain that license while in this job.
  • Must acquire District of Columbia and Virginia Physical Therapy license and must maintain that license within two (2) years of hire date and maintain them while in this job.
Preferred
  • Virginia and District of Columbia Physical Therapy licensure
  • Occupational Safety & Health Administration Ergonomics Certification.
  • Certification in Dry Needling
  • Certification in Orthopedic Manual Therapy

SUMMARY

The Occupational Health and Wellness Physical Therapist, Clinical Services Program, is a multi-skilled health professional role that works independently and with other health care professionals to provide quality occupational health care to Metro employees. The Physical Therapist follows the policies and procedures of the Occupational Health and Wellness office and adheres to all relevant -Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations and guidelines related to Clinical Services. This includes the return-to-work program and process under the guidance of the Medical Director, Clinical Services Program. The Physical Therapist collaborates with Clinicians, Occupational Health Nurses, as well as all Occupational Health & Wellness¿ programs, under Clinical Services, Wellness & Health Strategy, Americans with Disabilities Act Compliance, and the Employee Assistance Program. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assists with, manages, and oversees ergonomic assessments to identify potential risk factors for musculoskeletal injuries. Makes recommendations for workstation adjustments, tools, and equipment changes to reduce the risk of injury.
  • Designs exercise programs tailored to the specific needs of the workforce with a focus on musculoskeletal dysfunction. These programs include stretches, strengthening, and mobility exercises to address common issues such as back pain, neck pain, and wrist pain. These programs are held at any of Metro¿s locations.
  • Provides education and training to employees on proper body mechanics, ergonomics, and injury prevention strategies; helps employees to understand how to take care of their bodies at work. Presents at field trainings, meetings and other events. Also, provides health bulletins, webinars, and other media education.
  • Offers on-site physical therapy services in collaboration with Workers Compensation, Operations, division leadership, third party risk management and leave vendors. Provides ongoing treatment and support to employees as needed.
  • Assists employees with addressing any musculoskeletal issues early before they become more serious injuries. Offers group sessions with small groups up to large groups at one time.
  • Evaluates programs continuously to measure the effectiveness of physical therapy¿s involvement in all occupational health programs. Collects feedback from employees, in collaboration with Workers Compensation, tracks injury rates, and monitors employee satisfaction to determine if the program is meeting its goals.
