How You Can Add Value
Speech therapy is the assessment and treatment of speech, language, and communication disorders. It is performed by speech-language pathologists (SLPs), which are often referred to as speech therapists. Speech-Language Pathologist’s roles include assessment, treatment planning, and execution of treatment, prevention, advocacy work, outreach, and clerical duties.

SLPs can provide a range of services which help to enhance the following:
  • Conceptual skills comprised of receptive and expressive language.
  • Social skills such as interpersonal skills, problem-solving, and following direction.
  • Speech intelligibility: articulation, fluency, and voice.
  • Functional eating and swallowing.
Essential Functions
  • Provides assessment, treatment, and implementation of speech therapy services.
  • Evaluates clients’ speech and language abilities, and develops treatment plans, including short and long-term goals, and methods to achieve identified goals.
  • Communicates the clients’ Plan of Care (POC) to the family and/or guardian and participates in family meetings as needed.
  • Submits accurately written documentation, including evaluation reports, daily notes, and quarterly progress reports for billing purposes, in a timely manner.
  • Evaluates therapy progress by observing, noting, and evaluating individual's progress, recommending, and implementing adjustments and modifications.
  • Maintains professional certification/licensure as required by federal, state, and local licensing boards.
  • Willingly collaborates, shares knowledge, and provides feedback to other professionals and My Possibilities staff.
  • Preserves and protects client confidentiality in all situations and with all documentation and maintains professional boundaries.
  • Develops and conducts in-service training programs for My Possibilities staff.
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a commitment to teamwork.
  • Understanding of the needs of adults with intellectual disabilities, particularly those with complex emotional, social, or medical needs and behavioral difficulties.
  • Ability to keep accurate records.

  • Commitment towards HIPster and families, combined with a professional approach.

  • Experience working with adults with special needs a plus.
  • Experience and interest in using a variety of Augmentative and Alternative Communication devices a plus.
Education
  • Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology for CFY
  • Master’s Degree with clinical hours in Speech Language Pathology for CCC.
Experience
  • At Least one year of experience, required.
  • 2+ years of experience with people with intellectual disabilities, a plus.
Specialized Knowledge, Skills, Licenses, etc.
  • Must have current State of Texas SLP license.
  • Must have current Texas Professional Liability Insurance.
  • Must be able to clear a background check with no related offenses jeopardizing the integrity of our program.
  • Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and valid car insurance required.
  • First Aid, CPR, AED, HIPAA, and SAMA or CPI certification, preferred.

  • Depending upon level and need.
Working Conditions
  • Therapy is typically delivered in offices or in the classroom setting. Must be able to utilize regular office equipment such as computer, phone, scanner, copier, etc., to accomplish job requirements.
  • This position will be based within the My Possibilities campus but may be required to attend meetings at different venues.
  • This position may require assisting with clients’ behavior and working with the program staff to understand the proper techniques/tools to allow for the client to be successful in classroom and community environments.
