SUMMARY JOB DESCRIPTION

Hood Packaging Corporation is seeking a Network Support Specialist. This position, based near Atlanta, GA, will work with corporate IT staff to maintain network operations at multiple company locations. Travel is required, as well as occasional weekend or night work for system upgrades or troubleshooting.

The Network Support Specialist functions in a supporting role for the maintenance and enhancement of our data center and network operations, which are vital for the security, efficiency, and overall performance of our business. The position will work on projects that include working with routers, firewalls, servers, Storage Area Networks (SANs), backup solutions, and disaster recovery (DR) strategies. The Network Support Specialist will have a working knowledge of networking and server hardware/software, including maintenance and upgrades.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

Scope of Position
The Network Support Specialist is responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of our data center and network operations, which are vital for the security, efficiency, and overall performance of our business. Functioning in a supporting role in a range of projects focused on the maintenance and enhancement of our IT infrastructure, which includes working with routers, firewalls, servers, Storage Area Networks (SANs), backup solutions, and disaster recovery (DR) strategies. The Network Support Specialist has a practical understanding of MS SQL and related technologies, with an emphasis on system maintenance and upgrades.

Principal Responsibilities
Within the limits of applicable policies, procedures and established plans, he/she has authority to take action and make decisions. The assignment of work or delegation or responsibility does not relinquish responsibility for results. Performance will be measured by the extent to which the responsibilities have been fulfilled.

Functional Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Support and Initiative: Actively support and contribute to various IT projects, assisting in the maintenance and deployment of new infrastructure components. Must demonstrate the ability to proactively identify and assist in the implementation of technological solutions.
  • Infrastructure Development: Participate in the installation, monitoring, and maintenance of a robust IT infrastructure, including routers, firewalls, servers, SANs, and Hyper-V virtualized environments.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Assist in the creation and upkeep of detailed IT infrastructure and network documentation, adhering to ISO standards and compliance requirements.
  • Disaster Recovery Support: Contribute to the development and execution of disaster recovery plans and business continuity strategies.
  • Performance Monitoring: Assist in the regular monitoring and analysis of data center and network performance to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work alongside various teams to promote and integrate technology solutions that support corporate objectives.
Technical Skills Required
  • Networking: Solid understanding of networking principles, including routing, switching, and the ability to troubleshoot network issues effectively.
  • Firewall and VPN: Experience in firewall configuration and VPN management, with an understanding of network security best practices.
  • Database Management: Assist with the routine maintenance and basic optimization of MS SQL databases, supporting operational efficiency and contributing to meeting business requirements.
  • Windows Server: Competency in Windows Server administration and maintenance, with knowledge of server roles and features.
  • Active Directory: Familiarity with Active Directory management and optimization.
  • PowerShell: Ability to utilize PowerShell for basic automation and system administration tasks.
  • Cisco IOS XE: Experience with Cisco networking equipment and IOS XE software.
  • Hyper-V: Understanding of Hyper-V virtualization technology and best practices.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • College diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent educational background.
  • 3 to 5 years of related experience.
  • Experience in IT infrastructure support and participation in IT projects.
  • Proficiency in MS SQL database management.
  • Relevant certifications are an asset.
