Weekend Shift SMT Process Engineer

Position Summary
Banner Engineering has a comprehensive and advanced printed circuit board (PCB) assembly operation that includes surface mount technology (SMT), chip-on-board (COB), automated and manual through-hole soldering, depanelization, and electrical test. We currently have an opening for an SMT Process Engineer on our weekend shift, which will support the PCB assembly manufacturing operations with a focus on new product development (NPD) support, SMT process improvement, and design for manufacturability (DFM). This position will be located at our Brooklyn Park facility.
This position reports to the Sr Engineering Manager.
According to the FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act), this position is classified as:
- Exempt, based on the Professional Exemption
- Create and standardize programs for assembly equipment such as solder paste printing, pick & place, reflow, and automated optical inspection
- Provide production support to PCB assembly lines by using process and equipment knowledge, and by assisting technicians and operators with hands-on troubleshooting
- Support improvement of SMT processes and personnel capability through development of SOP’s and build instruction documentation
- Develop and execute strategies to improve long-term production yield of PCB assemblies
- Improve capacity and capability by supporting implementation of new equipment and technology
- Utilize your people skills, process expertise, and mastery of equipment and software knowledge to enhance released product quality, cost, and delivery
- Monitor defect spikes and trends, perform root-cause analysis, and collaborate with others to implement corrective actions aimed at reducing scrap and improving first-pass yield

Required
- 4-year engineering degree in manufacturing, mechanical, electrical/electronics, or other relevant discipline.
- PCBA process engineering experience
- Experience with manufacturing processes, documentation, quality control, and cost reduction
- Self-starter with a positive attitude who can deliver results with minimal manager oversight
- Intermediate to advanced software and PC aptitude
- History of developing solutions for complex problems
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Able to quickly learn and comprehend new software and hardware systems
- Able to predict how changes will impact manufacturing efficiencies and quality
- Understanding of bills of material (BOM’s), engineering change orders (ECO’s), and numerical control (NC) data
- Experience completing work using continuous improvement and LEAN principles
- SMTA process engineering certification
- Detailed knowledge of solder paste printers, placement machines, reflow ovens, AOI, selective solder, SPI, PCB handling equipment, PCB test equipment, and PCB assembly-focused MES software
- Experience in leading efforts to select and implement SMT equipment
- Schematic and electrical component knowledge
- Light understanding of databases, IT infrastructure, and coding
- Experience working in an ISO 9001:2015 environment
