Certified Surgical Technologist

As a Center staff member, you will perform a variety of duties as part of the surgical team, including the ability to scrub on all types of cases performed at the Center including general, orthopedic, plastic surgery, laser, pain, local cases, and other cases that may require training to learn new techniques. You are expected to assist in surgery preparation by “picking cases,” set up and maintenance of the sterile field function as the surgeon’s second assistant, and, participate in cleaning and or restocking of the Center per request.

Education:

  • High School Diploma
Licensure:
  • CST Certification within 12 months of hire
  • BLS Certification must be maintained while in this position
General Responsibilities:
  • Prepares for next days scheduled procedures by picking cases and using surgeon’s preference cards to assure that all necessary supplies, instruments and equipment are available.
  • Demonstrates instrument set-up, arranging instrumentation, equipment and supplies on the mayo and back table(s) as appropriate for the assigned case and according to AORN Recommended Practices, Center policy and the surgeon’s preference card.
  • Performs scrub technician and surgery assistant function according to AORN.
  • Performs appropriate hand scrub at beginning of day and for each case thereafter.
  • Dons sterile dress appropriately, using closed glove technique
  • Perform surgical prep as directed utilizing aseptic principles.
  • Prepares clean and contaminated instruments and supplies utilized in the surgery suite for transport, in an appropriate manner, and transports to decontamination for processing and re-sterilization
  • Attitude - Provides highest quality service and meeting customers' needs with utmost kindness, care, compassion, courtesy, empathy, respect and friendliness. Always acknowledges and serves customers with a friendly, open smile and direct eye contact.
  • Assists in surgery suite maintenance including case preparation, turn-over, and terminal cleaning following AORN Recommended Practices and Center policy.
  • Assists with inventory control and stocking of supplies
  • Appearance - Takes pride in personal appearance, the facility and its surroundings.

  • Team Member is accountable for areas of responsibility meeting regulatory requirements including but not limited to maintaining annual TB testing, completing annual mandatories (ALC and competency), and maintaining current registration/certification/licensures as appropriate to position requirements.
