Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Radiologic Technologist to join our team at Beacon Health System. As a Radiologic Technologist, you will be responsible for operating radiologic equipment, determining the quality and quantity of ionizing radiation, and making quality radiographs on injured and/or sick patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate radiologic equipment, including X-ray machines and fluoroscopy units.
  • Determine the quality and quantity of ionizing radiation to make quality radiographs.
  • Position patients properly for all examinations, including trauma, pre and/or post-surgical, and immobile patients.
  • Evaluate radiographs for technical quality to ensure accurate diagnosis.
  • Recognize problems and troubleshoot equipment, communicating with the proper person for needed repairs.
  • Provide sufficient patient history to the Radiologist to aid in diagnosis and document in the appropriate manner.
  • Check patient exam charges to ensure correct patient charging.
  • Ensure images sent to PACS are appropriately identified and marked.
  • Notify the appropriate person when corrections on PACS need to be made with images/files.
  • Utilize email appropriately to receive communication and to communicate to others.
  • Instruct students in clinical education and orient and train new staff.
  • Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by completing other job-related duties and projects as assigned by the Coordinator/Director.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an approved school of radiology technology.
  • Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and certification by the State Board of Health.
  • Knowledge of radiation emitting units and analytical skills to make judgments regarding quality of radiographs.
  • Well-developed communication skills to understand written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work in a Radiological environment with hazards due to radiation.
  • Physical ability and stamina to perform the essential job functions of the position.
Working Conditions

The Radiologic Technologist will work in a Radiological environment with hazards due to radiation. The position requires the ability to wear lead protective aprons and gloves during certain procedures and to maintain strictly controlled standards.

Physical Demands

The Radiologic Technologist will be required to perform the physical demands of the position, including walking/standing for prolonged periods of time, pushing carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, positioning/lifting patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, and providing CPR.

Organizational Responsibilities
  • Attend and participate in department meetings and be accountable for all information shared.
  • Complete mandatory education, annual competencies, and department specific education within established timeframes.
  • Complete annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
  • Maintain license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
  • Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR), and other certifications as required by position/department.
  • Consistently utilize appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
  • Adhere to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
  • Comply with established organization and department policies.
  • Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.
