Description

Summary: The Cost Analyst is a key role within the Plant Accounting department, which is responsible for providing a wide range of financial analysis to support the organization. As a member of the Finance team, the Cost Analyst will assist in providing valuable analytical support to Operations and other teams to make informed business decisions and help maintain the day-to-day duties of maintaining the SAP system with accurate data. The Cost Analyst will also assist in providing a variety of reports and analysis for Plant Management. On a frequent basis, the Cost Analyst will interact with a wide variety of departments including Sales, Marketing, Project Management, Customer Service, Cost Accounting, and Sourcing.

Essential Functions
  • Analyze and review manufacturing and purchase price variances
  • Assist in establishing costs for new products
  • Month end closing responsibilities
  • Review of monthly overhead spending, analyze trends and explain variances to budget
  • Assist in the preparation of yearly budget. Assist in the development of raw material, labor and OH standards.
  • Work with Project Management team on cost development of potential new items to provide insights into price setting
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and reporting for special requests
  • Develop, document and analyze product costs using bills of materials
  • Provide analytical support for various departments as requested: Sales, Marketing, Project Management, Operations, Customer Service, Cost Accounting, and Sourcing.
  • Other ad hoc tasks which could include preparing month end closing reports, and assisting with forecasting and budgeting
Education/Experience Requirements
  • S. degree with emphasis in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related
  • 2-5 years' experience in Cost accounting or Financial Analysis
  • SAP experience preferred, relevant experience in manufacturing accounting environment experience a plus
Competencies:
  • Good overall system skills required. Previous SAP experience preferred, but not required.
  • Excel: Superior excel skills required including working knowledge of pivot tables and advanced formulas to create useful financial analyses. Previous experience with creating and manipulating large amounts of data.
  • Proficient with an ERP environment
  • Strong analytical abilities and research skills
  • Must have an understanding of cost accounting (product costing)
  • Self-starter and team oriented
  • Exceptional communication skills to convey quantitative results at all levels
  • Ability to work independently and adhere to fluctuating deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work well with various other departments within the company
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities/projects
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to articulate effectively in responding to questions/ challenges by other team members
Travel: Limited

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
