UPMC Hillman Cancer Center has an exciting opportunity for a Scribe/ Medical Writer to support a medical oncology physician at our York Infusion center. The successful candidate should have extensive knowledge of medical terminology, as well as experience in a medical office setting. Special consideration for candidates with prior medical scribe or medical transcription experience. This position is a full-time, non-exempt hourly position. The schedule is (5) 8-hour shifts: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. The Scribe is a vital member of the medical staff, working closely with the Physician to ensure accurate data is captured and entered into the EMR. They are required to keep track of time to not impede patient care. We are looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented professional with excellent multi-tasking skills. A Scribe's responsibilities include collaborating with physicians and performing clerical tasks like printing out lab reports or charting doctor's appointments, operating electronic medical records, and anticipating the needs of the physician to ensure efficiency in a clinical setting. Ultimately, you are responsible for recording doctors' conversations with their patients and assisting them in completing the necessary documentation after each visit. You'll be required to complete summaries of what was discussed during the consultation or treatment session. Join our mission to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients. Apply today and take the next step in your healthcare career with UPMC Hillman Cancer Center Responsibilities: Performs other duties as assigned, including but not limited to, answering phones, scanning, abstracting, checking patients in and out, helping with work ques, etc. Remains as close to physician as possible and limits time away from the physician and the patient. At times, guides patient to front desk after completion of exam and ensures proper follow-up appointments are made. Provides patient with assistants while they are exiting the exam room to expedite patient flow. Monitors examination room and any physical limitations that the patient may have Evaluates the condition of the exam room to ensure adequate supplies are in stock. Correctly summarizes and documents what the physician says during an examination, including but not limited to: proper charting of the examination, documenting additions to the chief complaint, assessment and recommendations for treatment (including justifications of decisions reached when appropriate). Learns the personality and preferences of each physician, recognizing differences and abiding by them when working with each particular physician. Accommodates the needs of the patient for the exam. Notifies physician of changes to the daily schedule, especially emergencies Enter charge information as designated by the physician Maintains an awareness of the patient's verbal and non-verbal communication when the physician is providing instructions as it may necessitate the writer repeating information, providing written instructions, and/or patient education materials for the patient to review at home. Become fluent in the exact requirements of each examination. High School Diploma and 4 years of experience in a medical office, medical transcription or billing/coding required. Or Associate degree or equivalent, and two years experience in a medical office, medical transcription or billing/coding required. Basic of knowledge ICD-10 coding.
