FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
General Purpose Of The Job: NCIA provides Follow-Along and Ongoing Job Support to individuals diagnosed with an intellectual or developmental disability, served through the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA). Ongoing Job Support is provided by an NCIA staff who is a Job Coach. The Job Coach is assigned to an NCIA employee to work on a contract. Individuals supported by a job coach are referred to as supported employees.
The Job Coach provides coaching and support to a supported employee who has been assigned to them for 1:1 Ongoing Job Support. The Job Coach provides instruction and direction to the supported employee, ensuring that assigned job duties are achieved, and quality services are provided per the contract site specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees work assignments and performance of an assigned supported employee.
- Monitors the supported employee's performance and provides hands-on assistance, direction, and prompting as necessary while advocating for universal design, as appropriate.
- Strives to maximize the supported employee's independence and competency on the job.
- Advocates for advancement opportunities as appropriate.
- Ensures adequate supplies are available to complete the job.
- Provides 1:1 supervision as specified in the Person-Centered Plan and/or the Behavior Plan. This may include line of sight, within arm's reach, prescribed supervision within the building and in the restroom, etc.
- Provides individualized instruction, direction, supervision, modeling, and follow-up needed to acquire appropriate social interactions and work skills required to complete the job in a satisfactory manner.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and implements Person Centered Plans and Behavior Intervention Plans.
- Successfully completes all training required by the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA), including CPR/First Aid and MANDT.
- Exhibits ability and willingness to utilize approved behavior management techniques, including physical intervention when required.
- Responds to crisis situations expediently and provides the appropriate input and support needed to resolve the situation.
- Provides ongoing instruction, training, support, and reinforcement as needed to the supported employee to ensure successful work outcomes. Reports any/all obstacles to success to supervisors and managers promptly.
- Assists supported employee in implementing their daily work/activity schedule while staying on task.
- Ensures appropriate written reports and records are completed, including supported employee attendance and 1:1 shift progress notes.
- Exhibits ability and willingness to perform and assist with functions of daily living, including feeding, toileting, and personal hygiene functions.
- Maintains assigned records, data collection, and behavioral logs accurately and within required timelines, including completing documentation of incidents according to the DDA Policy on Reportable Incidents and Investigations.
- Ensures the safety of work/activity areas and equipment, confirms the appropriateness of assignments, gathers equipment and supplies prior to the arrival of supported employees, and replenishes supplies throughout the workday, as needed.
- Maintains communication with supervisors and managers to ensure that all necessary administrative follow-up and support services are provided.
- Provides transportation in an NCIA vehicle to job sites as assigned, following designated transportation policies established by NCIA.
- Follows protocols as it relates to accurately documenting on a daily basis all data on transportation logs: mileage, destination, passengers, completion of Vehicle Inspection Forms, etc.
- Obeys all laws concerning operating a vehicle in the State of Maryland, including cell phone usage.
- Must have at all times in their possession a working personal cell phone for company business.
- Observes all safety rules and policies, and guards against accidental injury to staff.
- Exhibits flexibility and enthusiasm in performing assigned duties.
- Attends and participates/completes all in-service training as scheduled.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and
- Six (6) months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must have a state-issued driver's license and an acceptable driving record as determined by criteria established by the Agency's insurance carrier and Agency policy.
Physical Demands:
- Walking significant distances.
- Running occasionally.
- Standing for a significant amount of time, up to two hours occasionally.
- Lifting or pushing 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently.
- Frequent reaching, stooping, grasping, balancing, kneeling, and crouching.
- Ability to stay awake and attentive throughout the entire shift.
- Operating machines, motor vehicles, and job-specific equipment and tools.
- Sufficient visual acuity to observe general surroundings and activities of supported employees.
- Sufficient hearing ability to accurately perceive information at normally spoken word levels.
- Safely work in situations of exposure to blood-borne pathogens, which may require specialized protective equipment provided by the agency.
- Both indoor and outdoor environments, with potential exposure to weather elements, such as rain, wind, or snow.
- Exposure to moderate to high noise volumes, including loud voices, office equipment, and cleaning devices such as vacuum cleaners and buffing machines.
- Work environments may include video and/or audio monitoring.
