Position Overview

The Software Engineer reports to the IT and Data Analytics Manager. The position will be responsible for specifying, developing, and validating software applications to improve the systems, reports, and processes used by operations as well as all other organizations within the manufacturing facility.

Quick Summary

The person in this role works with the operations, engineering, and quality organizations by creating software tools and systems to assist with production traceability, process error proofing, production automation, and business process automation. To be successful the candidate must be self-motivated, a quick learner, possess good communication skills, have a positive attitude, a passion for continuous improvement, innovative and be able work independently but be a team player.

Basic Background Requirements

This position will require

  • Knowledge of SQL data base systems
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Visual Studio and .NET development systems.
  • Project Management experience and understanding of the need for software and systems implementation controls
  • Knowledge of shop floor control, ERP systems, and Machine Learning preferred.
  • Familiar with business and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with front & backend software
  • The ability to work with all levels of the organization (Operators, indirect staff, leadership)
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Computer Science is preferred.
2. Key Performance Objectives

Short Term: (0 to 3 months)
  • Become familiar with the existing Kimball Electronics production traceability systems, custom applications, and database systems.
  • Develop interfaces and APIs for the manufacturing traceability system.
  • Assist with the deployment of the manufacturing traceability system to additional products and production areas.
Midterm: (3 to 12 months)
  • Work with the Continuous Improvement Teams on software automation and error proofing projects.
  • Assist with new production equipment software interfaces and automation.
  • Improve and manage the manufacturing traceability systems.
  • Improve tools to review traceability, WIP, and inventory data.
  • Assist with testing and validation of new software applications.
Other (ad hoc priorities)
  • Participate in upgrades and improvement projects related to SAP, Share Point, and the manufacturing traceability systems.
