Responsibilities of the Senior Virtualization Engineer
At EDC Consulting LLC (EDC), we are seeking a highly skilled Senior Virtualization Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is designed for a professional specializing in virtualization technologies, focusing on the implementation and maintenance of a Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) for Army enterprise and tactical applications.
The Senior Virtualization Engineer will:
- Work with engineers to develop and maintain the architecture.
- Develop, deploy, and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for the deployment and sustainment of the VMware suite of products.
- Utilize IaC for the provisioning of customer enclaves as applications are hosted on the solution. • Provide daily administration of the VMware products, including patching and upgrading all VMware components.
- Monitor utilization of all virtualization resources and notify the lead when additional resources are required.
- Harden VMware products per commercial best practices and the required government cybersecurity controls.
- Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis of any hosting platform issues.
- Develop and maintain system, infrastructure, and process documentation (system diagrams, network topology, software configurations, device configurations, standard operating procedures).
- Provide on-call support for triage and resolution of after-hours production incidents.
- Make recommendations for improvements to security, scalability, manageability, and performance across a wide variety of network, storage, and compute services and technologies.
Qualifications:
- Master's Degree with 10+ years of experience or Bachelor's Degree with 12+ years of experience.
- Senior-level experience with the VMware suite of products (ESXi, vSAN, NSX, vCloud Foundations, ARIA Automation, Tanzu).
- Strong automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across the entire technology stack - network, storage, server, and applications.
- Must have (or obtain within 6 months of hire) VMware Certified Professional (VCP), Advanced Professional (VCAP), or Design Expert (VCDX) certification.
- CompTIA Security + Certified
- Active Security Clearance
