Associate Director for Career Readiness

The College of Biological Sciences (CBS) is a college of approximately 2,300 undergraduate students pursuing degrees in the life sciences at the University of Minnesota.The Associate Director for Career Readiness leads the career initiatives and programming in CBS Student Services, a team of 20 staff committed to serving students through academic advising, career coaching, and student engagement. This role contributes to the collective responsibility of ensuring equity-minded student support services for CBS undergraduates.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Direct the career development function and lead the strategic planning of the career team with initiatives focused on social equity, relationship-building, and student support.
Keep abreast of emerging and high impact career practices, market and job trends, technological solutions, and other ways to deliver innovative and timely career services.
Create and maintain strong partnerships with key employers and educational institutions of interest to the career pathways of CBS students.
Use first destination outcomes data to inform the unit’s career offerings and develop reports to share with various stakeholders.
Supervise 3 career team members, establish expectations, and manage the daily operations and project execution of the team.
Support ongoing growth and development of staff through feedback, coaching, and conducting the career staff’s yearly performance reviews.
Create career content and resources, deliver workshops, and/or serve as an instructor for various career related courses.
Provide holistic, inclusive career coaching to CBS students and recent alumni and build relationships with individuals with varied backgrounds, perspectives, and identities through one-on-one appointments and drop-ins to assist with resume/cover letter reviews, job search strategies, mock interviews, pre-health and graduate school preparation, general career exploration, and other career topics.
Engage in professional development and service activities related to the student services profession with a commitment to ongoing social justice and racial equity work.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree plus 8 years OR Master’s degree plus 6 years of relevant experience, leadership and/or supervisory experience, experience aligning work to strategic goals, a commitment to DEI, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
