Overview:

The Fair Futures Career Coach is a full-time position that would provide support and resources related to youth in Foster Care at the New York Foundling. All youth, regardless of their situation, are also encouraged to engage in at least one career development experience/activity each year based on their interests, strengths, needs, and academic situation. It is extremely important for youth to start building their resumes at any early age, including through extracurricular, leadership, and community service activities. Engaging in career development experiences can also help youth build their self-esteem, sense of belonging, network of adult and peer supports, and the soft skills required for success in life. It can also help youth re-engage in school and improve their performance, as these experiences can help them envision pathways to success and why a degree is so important. Both the Coach and Career Development Specialist can help youth make progress toward their career development goals. The Fair Futures Career Coach will report directly to Fair Futures Coach Supervisor.

Responsibilities:

The Fair Futures Career Coach will be responsible for:

  • Building relationships with up to 18 youths with an age range if 16 to 26 yrs
  • Will oversees on-site job readiness program(s) (e.g., YA WORC), including enrollment and scheduling of program cycles.
  • Oversees on-site internship programs (e.g., Mentored Internship Program).
  • Helping youth develop or refine their resumes and will conduct career assessments.
  • Meeting with youth who are on a vocational pathway, or who have left college, to explore alternative post-secondary pathways and career paths in line with their interests and skills.
  • Helping youth apply to external programs, including vocational and workforce development programs (after speaking with their Coach).
  • Meets with youth who are enrolled in college to conduct career planning.
  • Builds relationships with external programs and employers to serve as pipeline for opportunities the youth in the program.
  • Assists with the job application process, including job applications, asseements and other forms , asneeded.
  • Checks-in with employers after the 3-month, 6-year, and 1-year mark to verify job performance ongoing.
  • Work 1:1 with youth to develop goals based on their interests and skills for job rediness.
  • Collaborate with case planners, others specialists, parents, foster parents, peers , to help youth achieve their career goals.
  • Attends coaching and mentoring and group supervision with the supervisor at the main office, alternate office, or in the community as needed.
  • Works closely with supervisor to effectively support the youth.
  • Adopts a strength focused approach with families, stakeholder, and within the program.
  • Communicate advances and barriers experienced with the youth, and stakeholders, including escalating any feedback received regarding own areas of improvement, to the supervisor.
  • Maintains communication with supervisor and escalate any incidents related to youths and complies with agency incident reporting policy.
  • Ensures adherence to all agency, city and state regulations and policies.
  • Responsible for timeliness of documentation and data entry while maintaining confidential client records, and meeting program deadlines (as indicated by program).
  • Participates in all model program trainings
  • Splits time between the main office, other offices, and community based on meeting needs of youth service needs.
  • Attends staff meeting and agency activities.
  • Attends required training set by agency, and continued commitment to professional development.
  • Regular and punctual time and attendance, and adherence to The Foundling's and your departments specific time and attendance policies and protocol.
  • Consistent demonstrated commitment to The Foundling's BHAG, mission, vision and values (Compassion, Dignity, Family and Community, Diversity, Excellence).
  • Adherence to The Foundling's employee policies, Code of Conduct and applicable rules, laws, regulations or bargaining agreements.
  • Appropriate engagement with support departments to ensure appropriate and timely hiring, performance management, investigation, discipline, suspension, and restructuring decisions concerning direct reports. Regular supervision and performance evaluation of direct reports.
  • Any other duties and/or tasks that may be assigned.
