QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Possess a bachelor's degree. Appropriate post high school training, education, and work experience in education, business, administration, management or transportation may be considered in lieu of the bachelor's degree
  2. Has verifiable experience at a managerial level in transportation or a transportation system; has knowledge of routing buses or possesses other management experience applicable to the school transportation services
  3. Has a satisfactory work history and driving record as verified through professional references and a report to the State Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation and/or county or local law enforcement agency
  4. Possesses the ability to work with a broad range of individuals and organizations
  5. Possesses the ability to manage personnel and resources to achieve a desired objective
  6. Possesses and maintains a valid commercial driver's license or will obtain one within twelve (12) months of employment.

SUPERVISES: All transportation personnel

JOB GOAL: To direct the overall operations for transporting students safely and efficiently.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Is required to be on 24-hour on-call status
  2. Formulates, recommends, and applies all transportation policies
  3. Supervises the work of all transportation employees; delegates responsibilities to subordinates but is kept aware of all operational matters
  4. Maintains all necessary records for the Transportation Department and prepares state/district reports as directed or required by law
  5. Coordinates the school bus discipline process between the ESC and partner districts.
  6. Is responsible for disciplinary and commendation recommendations for transportation employees to the Personnel Department
  7. Coordinates required inspections of ESC transportation vehicles.
  8. Is responsible for supervising the school bus driver physical qualification program and the driving abstract, license check, and drug testing
  9. Responds to parent questions, complaints, and concerns by telephone and in person
  10. Conducts required employee meetings on a regular schedule and provides an adequate planned agenda
  11. Makes emergency decisions in the transportation office in cooperation with ESC personnel
  12. Organizes driver check of roads in inclement weather
  13. Prepares and administers budget for the Transportation Department with Treasurer's office
  14. Maintains safety standards in conformance with state and insurance regulations and develops a program of preventive safety
  15. Attends appropriate committee and staff meetings as required
  16. Routes buses and maintains district maps with routes and pick-up points in cooperation with the partner districts
  17. Investigates all accidents that occur and reports to the appropriate partner district and ESC personnel
  18. Investigates any student-driver injury that occurs and reports findings to the appropriate partner district and ESC personnel
  19. Maintains records of all accidents; processes claims, and follow-up procedures for forms and reports as required by the state and district
  20. Performs other related duties as assigned
