Under general supervision of the Information Systems Manager, responsible for the day-to-day support of Gas South District's network environments. Plan and manage the installation, configuration and tuning of all network infrastructure. Perform a wide variety of technical duties which include, but are not limited to, root cause analysis, network design, network hardware installation, documentation, maintenance, and repair/upgrade of hardware and software. The Network Engineer is required to be on call after hours and weekends on a schedule. Responsible for managing, in concert with the other members of the IT Department, helpdesk tickets and desktop support. Meraki experience is a plus.

Requirements

  • Design, build, configure, and implement solutions for switching, routing, wireless and network security using network design best practices.
  • Maintain ongoing monitoring, installing updates, patches, and upgrades, and troubleshooting the Meraki network.
  • Work with various third parties to facilitate, manage and execute any special event technology requirements.
  • Document physical and logical network designs and provide management with the details needed for changes, upgrades, or improvements to network.
  • Perform research to stay on top of emerging technologies and industry trends.
  • Develop SOP's, and new operating models to expand efficiencies across the organization.
  • Manage technical requests and troubleshooting on desktops, laptops, and VOIP phones.
  • Manage any special projects assigned by the Information Systems Management team.
  • Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
Skills and Abilities

Position requires the ability to:
  • Demonstrate proper knowledge and use of all procedures, techniques, machines, materials, equipment, and tools used in phone and computer support and maintenance.
  • Demonstrate proper knowledge and technique in the use of hardware and software currently used by Gas South District.
  • Strong experience with designing, managing, and implementing a fully converged network including Wi-Fi, firewalls, and switches using industry best practices.
  • Be highly comfortable and capable with troubleshooting complex network issues in an enterprise network environment.
  • Understand and be capable of insuring that all laws, building codes, ordinances, policies, procedures, risk management and emergency procedures are followed.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in operational procedures, facility capabilities, industry terminology, event-related services, and technical requirements for the types of events anticipated at the facilities, in particular the methods, techniques, and procedures to repair and maintain all computer and phone related materials.
  • Possess any licenses, certificates or training required by local, state, or national authorities for the operations of the equipment found in the facility.
  • Read and understand blueprints, drawings, and other related materials.
  • Meet the physical demands of the job, which include being able to get in and around the facility (requires personal mobility) and working from various heights. Must perform strenuous physical duties at times, including lifting (up to at least 50 lbs.), carrying, moving, and climbing.
  • Be able to withstand moderate to loud noises.
  • Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule and produce accurate results.
  • Work as a team member as well as independently, exercising judgment, initiative, and confidentiality.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with clients, employees, and others encountered in the course of employment.
  • Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the field of Information Technology or Computer Engineering and at least 3-5 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
