This position will be a hybrid work arrangement, which translates to 2-3 days minimum per week in the office.

HarbourVest is seeking to recruit a Senior Manager, Tax Compliance to oversee US tax compliance for a portfolio of the Firm's commingled and custom account offerings, which include both open-ended and closed-ended funds across a range of asset classes including primary and secondary fund-of-funds, equity and debt co-investments, credit, real assets, and infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have significant US federal tax compliance experience and broad knowledge of tax matters impacting private market funds and their stakeholders. The role sits within the Boston-based Tax Compliance team and will also work closely with Tax Structuring and other functional teams in support of tax compliance for HarbourVest's diverse investments and products.

What you will do:
  • Oversee annual tax compliance for assigned fund entities, ensuring compliance with federal, state, international, and US withholding filing obligations and tax payments.
  • Partner with colleagues and external tax service providers to ensure quality and timely delivery of investor reporting (K-1s, PFIC statements, etc.)
  • Serve as a subject matter technical expert and oversight person within one or more of the Tax Compliance team's verticals (specialized areas). Develop and manage associated processes and mentor and develop junior team members.
  • Drive continuous improvements across business unit; actively engage in identifying and recommending new and effective solutions to existing processes.
  • Develop cross-functional relationships and proactively participate in multi-business unit initiatives across the firm.
  • Provide tax compliance support for new fund products and custom accounts.
  • Provide ongoing Client Service tax support for existing investors.
What you bring:
  • US GAAP/Tax knowledge - Solid understanding of US GAAP and tax accounting for various entity types including partnerships, limited liability companies, corporations, etc.
  • Industry knowledge - Ideal candidate should have a broad knowledge of private equity tax accounting, fund structure, and tax reporting implications.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications, and ability to quickly learn HarbourVest-specific systems.
  • Strong relationship and interpersonal skills, and the ability to develop effective working relationships and be seen as a great teammate both within and outside of the Tax function.
Education Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent. CPA or EA required, MST/MT a plus
Experience Preferred:
  • 10-15 years of public accounting and/or in-house tax compliance experience with private investment funds and their sponsors, preferably with a focus on alternative asset managers
