Description

Georgetown Market is an Independent, family owned, Natural Foods Store and Eatery. The Natural Living Department Manager shall be a qualified, detail-oriented and organized person capable of supervising all aspects of this critically important department in our store. Position Summary: The Natural Living department at Georgetown Market sells vitamins, minerals, herbs, essential oils, and natural body care products. The purpose of this position is to facilitate all operations in the Natural Living department through the training and management of employees, selection and maintenance of products, and ensuring that the customer experience is met to the best of our ability through the customer point of view.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Customer Service:

  • Greet, assist, and prioritize customer needs at all times by adhering to customer experience standards.
  • Help further the customer experience by assisting customers, sharing knowledge, and ensuring that each person is given attention.
  • Call, follow up, and research special orders requested by customers in a timely manner.
  • Continually strive to further knowledge about products and industry standards and practices and pass that information along to the customers and Natural Living Department staff members.
  • Help create and implement strategies to continually make the customer experience better.
  • Work with other departments to meet customer needs.
  • Maintain department safety and cleanliness - both sales and storage areas.
Purchasing:
  • Works with Natural Living Buyer to place orders with established suppliers and maintain appropriate inventory levels.
  • Receive invoices to ensure the inventory is accurately accounted for in Catapult POS system, with real costs.
  • Maintain vendor relations to ensure we stay connected and in good standing with the latest in catalog pricing, promotional programs, and industry knowledge.
Management and Training:
  • Ensure thorough job training of new staff members, as well as ongoing training and development of current staff.
  • Create and foster a workplace environment that encourages staff members to stay and grow with the company.
  • In conjunction with the Store Manager, interview and hire new staff members.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for staff members in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for creating the staffing schedule within given payroll budget, as directed by upper management.
  • Properly reporting and recording disciplinary actions as needed within the guidelines outlined in the employee handbook.
Product Selection, Pricing, and Merchandising:
  • Maintain a well-organized and relevant product mix in the Natural Living department including supplements, body care items, and related general merchandise.
  • Responsible for implementing pricing strategies in regard to margins and promotional items.
  • Meet with brokers and company representatives to review products, as well as acquire product knowledge and information that can be used to train staff.
  • Build and maintain attractive endcaps and floor displays.
  • Work with the Natural Living Buyer to ensure shelves are stocked appropriately and the database management is consistent and accurate.
  • Responsible for keeping an accurate perpetual inventory on Natural Living items.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends by attending product shows, visiting other stores, and seeking out knowledge through trade publications and online resources.
Other Responsibilities
  • Regularly attend and participate in manager meetings and store meetings, as well as plan and lead department meetings.
  • Perform MOD (manager on duty) shifts and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Review financial reports of department performance and take corrective action as necessary.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
Requirements

Directly Reports to: Store Manager

Supervises: Natural Living Clerks and Natural Living Buyer

SKILLS, REQUIREMENTS, AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 3-5 years' experience in vitamin and body care retail management.
  • Must possess working knowledge of supplements and health.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required. College degree preferred. Specialized training in natural healing, desirable.
  • Must be professional, organized, energetic, a team player, self-motivated, and able to motivate others.
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications preferred.
  • Communicate and interact effectively and appropriately with all customers, co-workers, and management.
  • Ability to trouble-shoot problems and present solutions for a variety of situations.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to work varied hours/days, as business dictates.
