DIRECTOR - PROCUREMENT Reports to: Vice President - ProcurementFLSA Status: Exempt SUMMARYThe Director-Procurement is responsible for company product portfolio ensuring the company provides high quality and high value products to our retailers and end consumers. Focus on purchasing and forecasting efforts for the entire company while embracing an ownership thinking approach to doing business and being able to perform under limited guidance and tight deadlines. Provide leadership and facilitation to all teams regarding Supplier Quality and Research & Development. Ensure that product consistently meets the external and internal requirements. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe Director s primary responsibilities include procurement and research and development. ProcurementSource and maintain vendors using an approval/qualification process in order to meet the quality requirements of Pro Food Systems, Inc.Poultry, protein and commodity procurement preferredExecute bids and price negotiations for all commodities, food products and supplies to meet growth objectives and price improvements.Identify and approve alternate vendors.Develop and execute annual contracts to meet company s current and future requirements.Conduct regular vendor performance reviews ensuring best quality and value. Timeline will be determined by VP of ProcurementConduct reviews to identify cost-saving opportunities.Communicate proactively between sales, warehouse, logistics, and suppliers to ensure clear understanding and scheduling requirements.Resolve grievances and claims against vendors regarding damages and quality issues.Source and procure of product for all new products.Support operational objectives through improved products and vendor resources.Maintain proper inventory levels based on usage.Implement a proven system for monitoring critical sell by date issues to minimize potential product markdowns or losses.Monitor product forecasts, market trends, and suppliers to determine future prices and availability.Prepare and analyze product forecasts to vendors on a quarterly, semi-annual, and or annual basis.Manage and maintain system requirements for all new item setups in NetSuite.Focus on achieving company goals, embracing the company s mission and vision statement and live according to our core values.Attend relevant trade show events and private label buying shows as planned by VP of Procurement.Supplier QualityQualify and certify primary & secondary suppliersDefine product and packaging specifications and ensure conformanceEstablish and monitor supplier quality metricsConduct quality audit visits for compliance and hold suppliers accountable for non-complianceLead annual critical supplier performance reviewResearch and DevelopmentManage the C2L (Concept to Launch) project for new items.Work with team to establish supplier quality requirementsManage testing of new productsOversee approval process for product formulas and specificationsOversee the development of new menu items utilizing existing private labeled productServe as product expert for PFSEstablish SOP s for new product testingQA sampling and testing procedures for inbound product color, odor, appearance, weightOther ResponsibilitiesWork with Purchasing to follow up with suppliers on product quality issues or packaging issues root cause and corrective actionsImplement and maintain rejection process for inbound packaging and productDevelop, implement and maintain traceability and recall process conduct bi-annual mock recallDevelop & maintain critical supplier and product listPerform all other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Poultry procurement experience is preferredBachelor s degree in business, finance, operations or a similar field strongly preferredHas a sense of urgency and is able to work in a fast-paced environment and manage tight deadlinesPossess strong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to gain respect and lead a team that is committed to a support role for the sales teams and our customersExcellent analytical skills; possess thinking-outside-the-box capabilitiesExcellent presentation skills to provide analytical reports to all employee-ownersStrong work ethic, always making the company and the customer a prioritySales oriented: always focused on customer needs firstAbility to effectively communicate with all types of people from owners to hourly employees for business resultsExcellent leadership skillsOrganization of business materials; internal, customer, and project filesA positive attitudePersistent in nature; follow-up is a mustAbility to manage time and schedule effectively and timelyExperience in CRM and inventory control software such as NetSuite a plusExperience in Financial Planning & Analysis is a plusTechnological competence including the use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Web-X, Outlook and other software as requiredWORKING CONDITIONSWork is typically performed in normal office conditionsOvernight travel is requiredPHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
